NYCrew will be there! I'm an idiot and didn't get my games on the sched. before the deadline, but they opened it back up! Running my Hybrid Bone-Effigy Crucible of the Urgent Chimera game Thu. and Sun., hopefully. In true pulp fashion, the title was too long to add "Hyperborea:" to it. Can I get paid by the word?

Looking forward to seeing you there! Well, some of you. JEFF.

Mabon? Are you not coming?

Excellent! I always look forward to seeing all my friends at Gary Con! Except for the Yankees fans. Those people are savages.

Oh, we got plans for you this year, pally. The boyz n'me been talkin', y'see ...

It'll be great to have you guys back!  I'm going to try for your Sunday game - I should have slept off Saturday night by the start time!

And they are scheduled! Thanks for not letting me screw this up, GaryCon staff!

Wait, doesn't this mean that one dungeon will finally be open? How can we lose?!

You guys rock! Very cool to see it in the wild. If we can make it to GaryCon next year, I'll run it there, too. Here's hoping! We're going feral out here on our own.

I gave a new to the campaign berserker a +0 weapon so they would at least have a magic weapon. :-)

The system works! Hey, Gizmo!

Handy! My heart is happy to hear from you! I'm certainly glad to hear that all is well and your crew is still gaming strong. I look forward to receiving your adventure. Please say hello to all the folks and let them know I miss them.

Mabon! So glad to see you! Oh, man, indeed -- the NYC Crew misses your for sure, and it was everyone's biggest regret about missing GaryCon that we wouldn't get a chance to see and play with you! I will definitely pass along your greetings, friend!

And thanks so much for reading the adventure. I would love to hear what you think!

Adventures » The Hybrid Bone-Effigy Crucible of the Urgent Chimera » 7/18/2022 12:10 pm

Hey hey, Hyperboreans! It's been a long time! I am surfacing from the nighted gulfs to let you all know that some poor foolish company has published an adventure that I wrote:

https://www.exaltedfuneral.com/collections/store-exclusive/products/the-hybrid-bone-effigy-crucible-of-the-urgent-chimera

It grew directly out of our AS&SH game and was written originally for AS&SH, though I statted it for OSE for publication. It should be pretty trivial to translate back to AS&SH as you play it. It definitely has its roots in Hyperborea -- and there's even a +0 magic weapon in there for Chainsaw!

Our game goes on. The Monsters of the Prophecy, our NYC crew, all hope to see you fine dice-rolling folx at GaryCon again next year, if hotel reservations and COVID will just cooperate!

Hope all are well! And thanks for taking a look at the adventure.

This is sad -- I can't remember if that DID happen to one of Ross's characters or if I just assumed it would.

I was doing some forum search on something unrelated and stumbled on this gem by Handy posted six years ago. It's got some great, creative stuff in it. Handy, did you ever make use of this in your campaign?

Ha! Yeah, Ghul, I used this precisely as long as my players kept heading over there. It led to a couple of fun weird circumstances and also revealed some monkey phobias that I had not suspected. Then eventually they tried to stage a coup in their base town in Brigands Bay, managed to cast inflict madness on the Kybernetes, and got "megalomania" as the result. They had to escape through an extradimensional garden (Ynn!)!

Rules Discussion » Reversing Petrifaction » 5/20/2020 10:19 pm

Me, well, I'm more of the you pays your money, you takes your chances school.

But I did want to say that once my players ended up using stone shape on a petrified character who had fallen and smashed. They had to put him back together before using flesh to stone ... and they made a few minor modifications along the way. And that's how Mike Hunt the bard became known as "Old Chin Balls."

Announcements » Glacial Ice ~ Hyperborean Dice » 5/20/2020 10:16 pm

Oh, I backed it. And wanted to thank you for making the dice pouch optional.

For the record, this is the first time I'll own one of those 10s-column d10s. And the first time I have ever bought a 1-20 D20 or a D4 with numerals at the vertices instead of the edges. Times. Changing.

Announcements » HYPERBOREA SOLD OUT! » 5/20/2020 10:14 pm

Collector's item, eh? I'll have to stash one copy in my Cave of Wonders. Once I kick out the dog.

Congrats, Ghul!

This is a kind of ridiculous ask ... but I've been using the PDF a lot more lately because of reasons. Is there any chance of updating it so that the bookmarks aren't ALL expanded? Or even like, not expanded at all? There's so much scrolling involved -- and I think this is something that can be controlled in bookmark creation, no?

General Discussion (Off-Topic) » Anybody else ready to get back to the table? » 5/20/2020 10:08 pm

We've doubled our time spent gaming. And it just doesn't matter if we're sick of it or not. Getting together in person is not possible now. So we do this. And I am trying not to look too far ahead because there's a real possibility that this is going to go on far longer than any of us hope. The rest of 2020 seems totally possible.

That said, we have welcomed in two players from out of state and have frequent drop-ins from people who could never make it over to my apt. to play. So that part's a blast.

But I sure wish Melan would pump out a few more issues of the zine in a hurry! They are gonna run out of dungeon soon!

Convention and Game Day » NTRPG Con XII (2020) » 5/20/2020 10:05 pm

This con is still happening? Wow. I am shocked. And, really, very sad to hear that.

I had my players tested. They can't actually feel guilt -- or shame! The doctors say it's the opposite of a medical miracle.

General Discussion (Off-Topic) » Happy birthday, Dread Necromancer!!! » 5/08/2020 5:17 pm

I think I speak for all of us in wishing you the happiest of days and and hoping you and your family and those you love are well and and together.

But also -- you're gonna have to answer for what you've done ... questionable things. Blood for the blood god, Ghul! You knew what you were signing up for!

Happy birthday, pal!

Bestiary » Men as monsters » 4/03/2020 9:38 pm

Yeah, Chainsaw, I will also happily give NPCs powers and abilities that PCs don't have. Different paths to power. I think I have blethered on about it in other posts!

Bestiary » Men as monsters » 4/02/2020 4:42 pm

For random encounters and mixes, see BA's Encounter Tables. Shows how many 0-lvls. back up yr typical classed person.

I am more comfy with more people being classed in Hyperborea than I ever was in D&D. It's a harsh world and a lot of normal people die. And a lot of adventurers retire after a big score since being an adventurer is even MORE dangerous. Or retire once too tentacular to continue their duties!
