The Magic: the Gathering crowd is taking note.  Liars of the Coast were planning on monetizing the hell out of D&D.  If that flops (and it will, short-term*), then Hasbro is gonna expect LotC to make up that projected revenue elsewhere.  Magic cards are the only other real source they can mine, and that fanbase knows it.  Some are calling to batten down the hatches and prepare for rough seas.

I say short-term, because I think the idea of a virtual tabletop, driven by the unreal engine is too much of a siren call for a lot of nerds to resist.  As many people have canceled their DnDBeyond accounts, orders of magnitude more have hung around.  (which reminds me of another lie....the brand managers says they have 13 Million DnD Beyond subscriptions.  What they have is 13M accounts, not all of which have a subscription.  I had an account, as I wanted to see what their online character builder was like  - it sucked, no shock there - but they never got a nickel out of me via DnD Beyond.)

Probably the Gods punishing Liars of the Coast for their incompudence*.

*: that would be a combination of impudence and incompetence.

Don't think it was committed to be end of 2022 -- was originally July 2023, and was subsequently pushed back to August/September of 2023 as the scope grew. Believe this was adjusted before the campaign ended, even.

This is a direct quote from the kickstarter's home page (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pulphummock/gods-of-the-forbidden-north), right below the picture of the two-headed dragon:
"It should be said here and now, that even if this Kickstarter should fail, Pulp Hummock Press intends to move forward with this project’s scheduled release by the end of this year. "

At least they realized the amount of actual work they still had to do, which is why I didn't back it.

What ever happened with this?  Did it get delivered?  They were commited to delviery by the end of the year, whether the kickstarter funded it or not.  Is the product available for purchase?

No adventure, even the G and D series, has survived contact with me as a DM without being modded to suit the needs of the players and I.

The author just posted a fulsome explanation for "why more $ upfront?", and I appreciate his openness even more now. My x:12 chances of supporting just shifted dramatically.

lol, yeah it not easy to know how much we can trust a total stranger, but he seems sincere.

As did Mike Nystul, Ernie and Benoist, etc...  and I actually knew the latter two (which is why I didn't pledge, actually.....)

And after reading his lecture about what kickstarter is....I can get a condescending lecture on about any topic on the internet for free.  Creators on KS can trot the "Kickstarter is not a store..." line out all they want, but the fact of the matter is: people who cough up money for something, expect something for their money.  Clearly those who take the money and run, without meeting their production goals, are unlikely to get funded for their artistic endeavors in the future.  However, to a large portion of those who pledge, KS is a pre-order network, despite the pie-in-the-sky ideal of supporting art, that the platform espouses.  Creators may not like it, but that is the defacto point of view.

And don't get me wrong, I have almost pulled the trigger on this thing more than once.  It sounds and looks awesome.  But personally, I don't really need a megadungeon. I need to toss money down the drain even less. But having said that, I'll probably pay for retail for it, if/when it is available, because I do in fact, want to support independant publishers of OSR/old-school D&D-esque material.  You'd be stunned at the extent of my dtrpg library, of which only a comparatively small portion is comprised of companies like WotC.

Are you familiar with G. Hawkins, who did the Gunderholfen mega-dungeon without any crowdfunding?  Writing, editing, art, layout, everything done by him, without any financial support.  I'll never run it, but that is a passionate

Thank you!  I saw Matt this weekend at Gary Con, but didn't really get a chance to chat him up.  Good to see him giving this great accessorie a refresh.

It looks really amazing, but I am passing. I see a lot of art, a lot of concepts, but it is the guy's first project, and this is #1 on the reasons they are running the kickstarter:

· Writing, Revision, & Editing

That says to me that a lot of the actual content still needs to be written.  I have been spoiled by Ghul, and burned a couple of times, so unless I hear a project is mostly done with the writing, I don't back it.  If they pull it off, and it looks good, I'll pay full price for it when it becomes available on dtrpg.

Per usual, Gary Con was great!  I got some feedback on my Lankhmar game, the "Lost Treasure of Tyaa" (using Hyperborea rules), and people tell me it went well.  I give myself a C+ on it, however, and I'll be putting a pause on further Lankhmar games.  So for Gamehole, and the next Gary Con (at least), I'll be running Hyperborea IN Hyperborea, one slot each con.

Somewhere, I wrote up Predators, though I think I renamed them Dreadators or something silly like that  My intent was that they were meant to be one-off menaces, like in the original movie.  I'll see what I can dig up.

Tusken Raiders and Jawa seem like a good fit for Hyperborea to me.

Yeah it was great!  My latest installment of Lankhmar/Newhon games using AS&SH seemed to be well-received, as the party recovered what was left of the treasures stolen and absconded with by The Birds of Tyaa, in the story "Claws in the Night".  In addition, they recovered a couple of artifacts, per "requests" from Ningauble and Sheelba.

Was very happy to see everybody again, and sorry I missed those of you who were there and I didn't bump into.
