Follow up on this one: The nightguants eventually showed up and stole the thing back. Later, while travelling through the woodlands of Gal, the Cryomancer who earlier possessed it died accidentally sniffing a blue lotus. Such is life.

Interesting results! Let us know what happens next!

Thanks! It did turn out very interestingly.

Writing this out as a post has inspired me to go political with the Vikings. We'll offer the party a chance to establish their land grants from Ragnar. To claim their grants they'll have to vie with other lords who think the land is theirs, enemies of Ragnar. Perhaps an accident in a battle can take us to "Chapter 2" of the adventure.

My players managed to steal the thing, kill the beast, and kill the bad guys (wolfpack included) without breaking much of a sweat. The party has a cryomancer who can control the thing.

Obviously, moving forward, they'll be increasing frequent and nasty visitors in the night as the sphere does what it does. I imagine my players will get rid of the thing before they break it.

Interesting adventure and a nice doorway into higher level play. Now I need to find what lands from New Vinland the players will be gifted for saving the princess. perhaps this can lead into some political stuff with the Vikings.

Sounds interesting...if you've played through Ghost Ship of the Desert Dunes you could use the Amazonian skyship as the PC-piloted entree to the adventure...add in some other skyships and you can have Ace of Aces over Hyperborea!

I totally forgot about Ghost Ship of the Desert Dunes, I will check that out.

I'm hoping for an desperate battle high in the sky, as the ship fly over the Spiral Mountain Array, perhaps ending with the ship crashing into some sort of thematically appropriate epic dungeon.

I've been thinking that a raid on a hyperborean sky ship would make a pretty cool higher level adventure. I'm writing this thread as a clearing house of ideas and to collect any feedback others want to share.

the basic idea is that an antagonist has found and recovered a hyperborean sky ship. This would be an immense vessel of great power that flies through the sky. Conceptually thinking like a giant galley, but the oars move as if by unseen hands.

Now the ship would be fought over by a few factions:

1)the PCs.

2)a contingent of actual Hyperboreans, trying to re-capture or destroy her. Maybe instead of Hyperboreans, as this would be harder to justify, what about a squad of particularly commando-like Amazonians or an equivalent number of Ixians.

3)the antagonists who have repaired the ship. Thinking good old ubiquitous snakemen might be a good enemy here, but of course the Mi Go would be great too, with different Oon for the crew of the ship.

what will most likely happen is that the ship will crash into the ocean or the Spiral Mountain Array in a great orgy of destruction.

speaking of Gabor (can you tell I'm a fan) he also recently released this free micro-setting/hexcrawl called Gloomywood.

Lots of fun ideas, I could see this stuck in the mountains East North East of Khromarium.

This question definitely came up as we have a shaman, a cryomancer and a pyromancer in the party and until recently we did a lot of seafaring.

We decided that a fireball could be aimed at something on the deck, like the hull or an NPC or at the hull of the ship itself. cast at the hull of the ship itself, we'd use the normal damage rule described above. if the fireball targeted something on the deck, like an NPC or the mast, this would not damage the hull points of the ship but could do all sorts of other things like knock down the mast, bring down the rigging, set the hull or cargo aflame, etc.

Our party was particularly proud of an encounter with a pirate junk in the Lemurian Remnant where the unknowing pirate ship was hammered with a lighting bolt at the mast and a fireball at the crew.

My players are in Khromarium now, for the first time, and I used Melan's "Nocturnal Table" to create webs of connections and NPCs for them to flail and drown in. And when they get tired of RPing, it's into the "Complex of Rising Tombs"!

We too had a lot of fun with the Nocturnal Table and Khromarium. The players liked it quite a bit, lots of random and fun encounters and situations.

I'm still trying to see if we can fit Castle Yntillan in with the current group. Levels-wise they're too high for it.

I've have found that Gabor's Gont, Nest of Spies is pretty wonderful when used as one of those towns on Brigand Bay. As always, lots of flavor and lots of locations. My players love it.

I think others have mentioned it above, or in another thread, but Gabor Csomos' The Lost Valley of Kishar is fantastic. Nice encounters, nice twists, my players managed to succeed accidentally and inadvertently in the subplot, which was really cool.

this one was fun!

I ran this for my usual Monday night group where I'm a player usually. Some of our number were interested in Hyperborea and I've been a fan for awhile now so this seemed like a great introduction.

what a great adventure, especially in the context of a level 1 one shot. Absolute murder hobo mayhem.

Spoilers:

My group threw both Venutius and Neitol down the hole in the first room. I have to say I love the drug deal gone bad introduction to this adventure.

we never actually found the brazen bull or the priests. we did find the witch's tomb and we did unwittingly release her.

Having done all this and having gotten lots of treasure, the party then went back to mess around with Thaumagorga's Consignment, ending up impaling two of the party members on hooks, adding to the 3 already there, leading the the liquification of half the party.

On the way out, the surviving party members encounter the newly born lamia, attack her, get charmed and become her foot soldiers.

the end.

4.5/5

this is a really fun idea. I may need to use it myself,

Recently we've been running this at our table and we didn't see another thread here about the adventure so we've made this one. Our party is having a helluva time. Its been fun and challenging, a great time.

Spoilers:

So far our heroes have made into the pyramid from the secret passage. In the pyramid the party's longtime NPC companion, Vorr, the huntsman, died fighting an Asp. It was a dark moment for the group.

Hours later, the party inadvertently tried to camp within the pyramid, near Kang Som's personal chamber. Kang Som attacked the party, a desperate battle ensued, and the party fled up the pyramid to the top.

Now they're stuck at the top of the pyramid, its night, everyone is wounded, the spellcasters are low on spells, etc. The party is now trying to figure out a way to escape into the jungle. On the pro side, the party has already murdered all of the acolytes and lay brothers.

Right now Kang Som is sending runners from the village to the pirates;-) . . . .

I wanted to offer an update as the party's pirate plans altered:

By the time the party went from where they came up with the idea to get a ship (a small fishing village located on south shore of the big lake west of Yithorium) to the place where one gets a ship, Xambaala(Yay!), plans altered a bit.

Instead of stealing a ship, the party would pool their meager treasures and buy a coaster. Even then, funds were light. Thankfully, it being the 2nd week of the 13th month in the year of the Wolf at that time, ships were going cheaply as the year of the Tempest was nearly at hand.

a little while later, after an epic battle at sea, the bigger questions now were:
1)"What really is an Ixian carrack?" we played it off as a Cog with 2 masts.
2)"What happens when you take an Ixian ship? How does it move without needing the wind?" Some magical item only Ixian captains carry, I'm thinking a medallion that holds a genie.

The party's patron, the debauched lord Arsenios of Pentos, is now one ship richer, and the party now has at least one new arch enemy; a particularly wet and cold Ixian necromancer who survived losing his ship and has washed up on a beach, some miles south of Xambaala.

I GM for a group of players who are aiming at stealing or acquiring a ship and becoming pirates.

I'm thinking of making it so the currents in the seas of Hyperborea generally move in certain directions during certain years. Like imagine if, during  year 4, the currents just make it really easy to get from Vikland to the Zangerios Islands, or example.

Anyone ever do anything like this? Would it be too rough to have it so that during the year of darkness the seas currents don't really move at all?

Side note: What's awesome about this whole idea is that it was entirely the players'. Also, plot-wise, this pirate scheme brings the party back to Xambaala and into the greasy hands of Aramis D'athak. When the party was last in Xambaala, they never really finished the Anthropophagi adventure.

In the party I GM for, there is a 3rd level Viking shaman. The players love the flexibility and practicality of this class. Just recently this shaman healed 3 out of 4 of the party suffering from giant rat plague, thankfully the non-lethal kind.

This is another cleric/magicuser

Hello everyone. My name is John.

I got into this when I saw the pdf of Drivethru on sale recently for like $11.99. The PDF looked so good we rolled up some characters and started wandering around Yithorium in the 3rd year of the last cycle, and we've been messing about ever since.

We love the setting and the heavy sword and sorcery feel.
