😂 That was a hilarious battle. I think 2 hours were spent prepping for it only to have it over on the first round. Lol, well done!

😂 Birgir sure did get some incredibly good rolls while berserked. Very nice accounting of the battle (so far).

I know, right? He’s writing the tale of our Xambaala game like a true master. He should probably be the DM instead of me, lol. I’m just not that colorful of a game master. 😂

My players are close to finishing up Xaambala and it seems they have some interest in seeking employment from the Witch Queen. In light of that, I am planning to flesh out Yithorium and give it the Xaambala treatment. I think Anthrophagie is a fantastic setting/adventure and want to emulate its style.

I am happy to hear from those that may have already fleshed out that city or have some thoughts on how it might be developed.

In chatting with ghul he confirmed that the Witch Queen is generally based on the evil twin in the Howard Conan story ‘A Witch Shall Be Born’. The city itself is based around a 100’ tower of alien origin. There are springs/oasis’s there as well. I’m leaning heavily towards a city design resembling Angkor Thom/ Angkor Wat. Namely, a city with spring-fed canals and something resembling a moat, but otherwise unwalled.

Howard’s Witch Queen is thoroughly despotic, and a fairly insatiable evil, well... witch. Debauchery rules the city. Anyone that catches her or her advisors eyes are snatched from the streets regardless of station. Is that a sustainable element in Hyperboria? Obviously Conan overthrows the Witch Queen in a relatively short time where as in Hyperboria she is ageless and has been in power for a very long time. That sort of behavior doesn’t lend itself to long-term rule.

Anyway, I’m straying a bit but feel free to chime in with ideas for Yithorium. If you are one of my players, get the@$?! out of here. :-)

I'm in the larger group picture, to the right of Morgan in the red Caps hoodie. Great times the other night! Ptarmagin Nights was awesome. Morgan runs a great game and the props were boss!

Plot: In 1914, a young man arrives at a remote island near the Antarctic Circle to take the post of weather observer only to find himself trapped in a watchtower besieged by deadly creatures which live in hiding on the island.

Anyone watch this flick? It was pretty good and had a bit of a Lovecraftian feel to it, at least in the beginning.

Great thread. This is also one of my all-time faves! At one point I had been trying to develop a "secondary delve' into the Forbidden City. There are so many unmarked buildings on the map to play with. One is a Tamoachan-like pyramid that I started fleshing out. Sadly, I never finished it... Maybe I'll dive back into it one of these days.

I dig it. They sound good. I'm loving the Latin metal these days. There's been a pretty big resurgence. Jose Mangin from Sirius Satellite Radio has been pushing it quite a bit.

Well, s***. That blows, Chainsaw. Tell your employer to suck it and come on up anyway!

I'm heading out from northern Virginia at 4am tomorrow with some peeps. See y'all when I get there. I'll be the nerd with the Washington Capitals hoodie on.

Anyone going to Mentzer's par-tay?

As others have said, the HP penalty for losing your familiar goes back, at least, to 1st edition AD&D. The familiar is a so much a part of the magician that its loss takes a bit of you with it.

As for the spell book, 1st edition AD&D suggested a Magic User carry a secondary "traveling spell book" that would contain just the most used spells while the full spell book be kept secured at home or wherever.  I imagine the extra cost for a replacement may reflect the cost of starting a spell book from scratch (without any 'starter' spells).

Sweet. Just finished game registering:

Thursday 8am:  Hyperborea: Thieves of Fortress Badabaskor
Thursday 1pm: E Gary Gygax Jr. Presents The Hobby Shop Dungeon

Friday 9am: The Tomb of Horrors
Friday 1pm: Reverse Sailors on the Starless Sea

Saturday 8am: Hyperborea: Cairn of the Warlord / Hand of the Deeps
Saturday 10am: Hyperborea: Charnel Crypt of the Sightless Serpent
Saturday 7pm: Castle of the Mad Archmage

Pretty stoked about this set of games. Obviously it's pretty AS&SH heavy - and that's how I like it, baby! This leaves me Thursday night to jump into some Foolsgrave and Friday night for a private 5th ed game. And all the time in the world to insert quality beverages.
