“Lotus Bear”: A disreputable type hires the PCs to retrieve several bundles that have washed ashore from a recent Ixian shipwreck, offering gold and a treasure map. The bad news is that the bundles contain rage-inducing lotus favored by berserkers. The worse news is that a brown bear has gotten into some of the bundles and become both enraged and addicted. While gathering the bundles, the PCs will have to dodge both the crazed bear and an Ixian necromancer (with zombie minions) who has come ashore to retrieve his property. Another possible encounter will be a pair of adorable bear cubs searching for their rampaging mother, who will (probably needless to add) start to follow the PCs while whining piteously.
I am so steal...uhm...borrowing this from you!

Cool. Any other highlights to share?

How many premade characters do you want? Of what levels?
Given that I primarily run ASSH as either a con game or a pick up game in a store having as many as possible to choose from would be wonderful. I primarily still use the seven that Jeff published in the Rogues Gallery and simply would like a broader spectrum of choices.

Jeff, do you have plans to release a package (or booklet?) of premade characters like you did for 2nd edition?
Convention and Game Day » PAX Unplugged in Philly » 11/03/2022 9:10 am |
Has anybody run a game or participated in PAX Unplugged? It's coming up again and from what I remember there really isn't any preregistering for games; basically you go to the table of the game you'd like to play and hope there is a seat. Is that accurate?
Rules Discussion » 3rd Edition Monk » 8/02/2022 10:27 am |
I think the change was a good one and it makes the monk a better PC class.
Rules Discussion » 3rd Edition Monk » 8/01/2022 8:48 am |
Jeff, it appears that the latest version of the monk is allowed to use both their DEX bonus and the AC class bonus where in 2nd edition it was either/or. Am I reading the new version properly?
HYPERBOREA 3E » New Character Sheet » 2/11/2022 9:53 pm |
If you're taking input, I prefer the previous version where the attributes and info flow on the same line. More intuitive and tidy.

Very nice!
I like the clean look and how things are co-located.

I've successfully run Rats in the Walls as a con game. It's a great, low level scenario that is a great intro to both the mechanics and setting. Time can be an issue because if the party goes to the basement too quickly and finds the trapdoor it can all be over in less than three hours. So I threw in another encounter that filled up the time slot nicely.

Literary Inspirations » Washington Post Book Reviewer Discusses REH » 6/12/2021 7:33 pm |
I never would have thought that the Washington Post newspaper would have a column discussing Robert E Howard's works which the book reviewer clearly admires. This should be a free look at the article:
Robert E. Howard became famous for creating Conan. But that warrior was only the beginning. - The Washington Post

Rereading the changes mentioned in the first post, I'm also happy to see that you'll be doing an atlas style change with the map. I assume it will be in the actual book itself? Can you say what makes the new poster map special version?

As the monk is the most revised class, I do plan to show it to you guys. But I do this with the understanding that you guys here, my gaming peers -- many of whom have been playing for as many decades as I've been, or more -- may well say, "Great improvements, but why not add x ability, y ability, and take away z ability? Ans while you're at it, what's up with the...." You get my meaning. We're an opinionated lot with different yet similar ideas on what makes something good or better. I suppose what I am saying is, I feel like we've made excellent improvements to the class, but monks in general seem to produce some wildly different ideas on how they should or shouldn't be presented as a playable class. Does that make sense?
It makes sense and I totally get where you are coming from.

I like the change of sorcerer types being able to read shared spells; that was a house rule of mine as I found the way as written too prohibitive.
I'm very interested in the rewrite of the monk. Are you willing to give a preview of a change?
