A friend of mine on Goodreads recommended this book just the other day.  It certainly had an interesting premise and I've considered picking it up.

Personally, I love the AS&SH system.  It is so well structured and clean.  Still feels like 1e AD&D to me but done in a very easy to understand and clear manner.  And it supports the Hyperborea setting so well.  Kudos, Jeff!

Man, somehow I had missed out on Clark Aston Smith for all these years.  I hadn't even heard of him until a year or two ago.  I discovered his works while reading some OSR blogs.  This was during a time when I was paying a great deal of attention to the DCC RPG and Smith was listed as an influence on the type of fantasy presented in that game.  Still more time passed and I hadn't read Smith.  His books are hard to find in my neck of the woods.  Then I purchased a five volume set of collected works for my Kindle although I greatly prefer physical printed books.  I have finally gotten my hands on two books, The Return of the Sorcerer and a new one, The Dark Eidolon and Other Fantasies.  I've begun reading the stories in the newer book and I'm greatly enjoying them.  Smith is quite the wordsmith and I find myself having to read carefully to really take it all in.

When I was a young teenager, around 13 or so, I read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings for the first time.  Those books captured my imagingation like no others had up to that point.  My earliest memories of playing D&D, I think B/X at the time, are of making characters with names similar to those in the Tolkien books.  I was particularly fond of making Dwarves and Halflings and modeling them after Gimli, Thorin, Merry, Pippin, Frodo and all the others.  A year or two later as maybe a Freshman or Sophomore in High School, I found the Elric books.  I believe the copies I acquired were the DAW paperbacks with the Michael Whelan covers.  The cover of Stormbringer in particular caused me to take notice.  I devoured those six paperbacks and they totally changed my thinking about what fantasy was and could be.  Those Elric books opened up the world of Swords and Sorcery for me and were my gateway to Conan and Fafhrd and Grey Mouser and others.

I've read the Elric stories multiple times since then but have never read any of Moorcock's other works.  Are there any other Moorcock fans here that can recommend some of his better other non-Elric works?

Lin Carter's Thongor stories are entertaining.  Great literature?  No.  Fun stories?  Yes!  I have three or four of the books but I think I am missing a couple.  I might have to track those down as I did enjoy the ones I read.

Keep the pictures coming, Chainsaw!  I very much want to attend Gary Con someday.  In fact, I've only really been to one convention in my life.  That was North Texas RPG Con the year before last.  I brought my son, who was almost 14 at the time.  We both had a blast!  I think I will be getting back to that Con next year, I hope.

So please post more pictures and share any info that you care to about the goings-on at Gary Con, AS&SH related or not.  I have to live vicariously though you!

Jason, is this going to be a typical PbP game where the DM posts and sets a scene and the players then post their characters actions/interactions with that scene, then the DM posts in response to that and then the players post further actions/interactions, and so on and so forth?  If so, I'm interested in playing.

Funnily enough, this question came up in my game on Sunday as well.  Finding nothing to indicate otherwise, I allowed my player to charge as often as he wanted, provided he had at least 20' between him and his opponent and a relatively straight path.

Greetings fellows!

About a month back, I bought the PDF of AS&SH and within a few days had ordered the boxed set, a Players' Manual and the Dunwich module from Noble Knight.  After receiving the actual physical product, I was completely hooked.  The PDF was enough to push me to buy physical boxed set but actually getting ahold of that gorgeous looking box, I knew I'd be starting a campaign up straight away.  Within a few days of receiving the actual boxed set, I placed another order with Jeff right at the end of his most recent sale for another five Players' Manuals and the Sightless Serpent module.  I was so enthused about the game that I bought those Players' Manuals for my entire group.  I even snapped up copies of issues 2-4 of AFS Magazine and already owned Knockspell #4 with Rats in the Walls within.

I started the new campaign with my group yesterday and I loved it!  I think the group really enjoyed it as well and I'm looking forward to a long and fun campaign.

I've been gaming since around 1978 or 79.  Started with First Edition AD&D.  All we had was the Players' Handbook at first, just making up monster stats on the fly.  We didn't even have any actual polyhedral dice.  We used 3d6 for task resolution rules.  After that, I played some B/X but preferred AD&D.  Eventually moved on to 2e AD&D and then played 3e and 3.5.  Five or six years ago, I discovered that I really disliked 3.5 D&D rules and started to go back to my roots running some 1e and 2e AD&D games.  Around that time I discovered the OSR movement and have followed it closely ever since.  I've purchased and played many of the D&D clones and D&D spin-offs including ACKS, Swords & Wizardry, OSRIC, Labyrinth Lord, Blood & Treasure, Crypts & Things, and of course AS&SH.  AS&SH hits the sweet spot for me.  I find the rules very similar to AD&D except cleaned up and clarified in all the right places.  The setting is the most evocative setting I've read in years.  The imagery is fant
