Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Hope you enjoy the adventure.

I’m doing well, Chainsaw. Still gaming regularly and have started a new job recently. Definitely stoked to be getting this adventure into print too!

Hi everyone, I’m the person responsible for the written text of the Xambaala adventure. Jeff (gently) cajoled me out of message board slumber in order to briefly say ‘hi’. Anyway, I’m very pleased to see that the Kickstarter is doing so well, and there is such vigorous support for it here

For me a successful campaign must capture a certain "mood", "vibe" or "flavour". That is usually where I begin. The question I typically ask myself is "What am I wishing to portray and how do I portray it?" My current campaign combines Bronze Age Greece, Dark Ages Britain, and a rather large dose of various mythologies. The rest develops itself as the players interact with the world. I try to shelf my own expectations of what the players will/might/could/should do and be reflexive to their decisions. I try to enable my players a sense of autonomy and power within whatever environment they are in. That includes rewarding creative thinking and providing multiple avenues of adventure. I try to give my players plenty of options — say 6 adventures of varying sizes prepared. Most may be one-shot length, while a few are larger in scope and complexity.

* Running Corey Walden's "Anthropophagi of Xamboola" (a future AS&SH adventure) for my crew

Wow, high praise indeed. Thanks!

Highlights:

— Finishing my Master's Thesis and being awarded first class honours.
— Presenting my first academic paper.
— Winning a travel competition, thus allowing my wife and I to get back to the States for Christmas/New Years.
— Doing LOTS of gaming and related writing, including finishing the playtest booklet for Tombstone (thanks Joseph!), releasing a few low-key adventures independently, playing in a Fallout-inspired Savage Worlds game, running the aforementioned Hyperborean adventure/campaign, running OD&D, playing Star Wars sci-fi, playing Labyrinth Lord in a G+ game.

...so very good year.

Resolutions:

— Begin my PhD.
— Publish two academic articles.
— Read and write everyday.
— Finish a certain adventure for Jeff ;)
— Finish Tombstone (thanks Joseph and Seb!)
— Continue with a new project.

Remember, this thread is for errors and the like, not a place to say, "Hey, dude, I think you should make my half-gelatinous cube, half githyanki, paragon assassin-paladin, forger a new race-class combo in the game!"

Great. There goes my best idea.

I was thinking you could make these really cool "builds" as, like, pregen characters. But with awesome 12 page backstories.

For me it comes down to flavour and intelligence. I've used Vhuurmis as wilderness raiders with (slightly) more intelligence than an ape; they are evil bastards. Ape's by contrast are merely wild animals. It's kind of like the difference between an orc and an ape. Could you use both for the same thing? Sure. But they both add a distinct flavour.

I'm always looking for people to do layout, thanks for the offer. I'm not particularly good at it myself so I'll certainly let you know if I have anything in the pipeline.

That's all good. It was a quickie to put together (and produced with a $0 budget) so the product is reflective of the conditions in which it was created!

It's a tidy adventure. Because U1 is somewhat generic it's certainly useful for plonking in most settings.

You're welcome! We had a lot of fun when I first ran this. It's a pretty creepy module if it's run well

Thanks! That's great to hear. It had a lasting impact in my campaign. Try NOT to do things that will set a demon free into the world! ;)

They were unbelievably frightened of a certain skeleton and must have spent at least 30 minutes deciding whether to enter the room or not!

Joseph, as you know I've placed this as a location/adventure within my current OD&D hex crawl. I've set the scenario up, and I'm waiting for the players to take the bait

Oh, and I watched "The Curse of Frankenstein" (1957) recently to help me write an academic review. I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm not sure whether these constitute "horror" or not, but I've been enjoying the t.v shows Penny Dreadful and American Horror Story.
