Re: AS&SH 2nd Print?

I know options add costs, but I would love an option for a rolled copy of the map.  At least, a hi-res pdf that I can use to print an unfolded (and possibly laminated) copy.  I love the original map and am looking forward to the new one.

Re: AS&SH 2nd Print?

I'm going to take it hiking and pull it out of my pack, consult it, nod sagely, and strike boldly forth. Let follow those who dare!

Sounds great, Ghul!

Part of my quote included a portion of unfolded maps for just these occasions. Of course they will cost more -- the cost of the tube mailer and the shipping of said tube, but some folks want to laminate their maps and have no folds. I understand!

That's really splendid - love big fold-out maps.

Re: AS&SH 2nd Print?

Very sexy, Jeff!  What material will the map be printed on---something like the old texoprint maps TSR did for EPT, Lankhmar, and such?

Allan.

PS - Jon and I have been looking to find a good printer for larger sheets of hex paper.  Perhaps yours would be a good fit?

Hi Allan,

I'm not sure what they call it. It's the same kind of texture and feel you get when you hold a trail map. That is their specialty. I'm not sure about the technical name for it, but I beleive it is just a 70# text paper that is finished a certain way.

PS - Jon and I have been looking to find a good printer for larger sheets of hex paper.  Perhaps yours would be a good fit?

Maybe! But have you considered FEDEX for the larger sheets? Might be easier . . .

Cheers,
Jeff T

Re: AS&SH 2nd Print?

New here and loving the game.  Any news on the 2nd edition/printing of this in hardback with the errata/fixes stuff?

Hello and welcome!

This is not an official announcement, but it will give you an idea on how things are developing. If this is a second edition the way in which bibliophiles define such, it is on par with how Call of Cthulhu has done some of their "new editions" over the years; meaning, the rules of the game are not changing, but we're cleaning, reorganizing, and adding in some new stuff (classes, monsters, magic items, spells, etc.).

This is not to say that you absolutely will need the hardback, which I've been tentatively been calling AS&SH Compleat in my notes. In fact, one could have a game in which some participants have the new hardback and other participants have the older boxed set, and there will be almost perfect compatibility.

What else?

- New Art! Adding to the well-received art of the boxed set, we've brought in some of the artists who have helped make our recent modules a great success. These include Johnathan Bingham, Daisey Bingham, Del Teigeler, Peter Mullen, and Val Semeiks. We've also brought in Jason Sholtis who is doing his first AS&SH work, and legendary RPG artist Russ Nicholson. Lastly, Charles Lang is painting us a new front cover and back cover.

- New Map! We have brought in Glynn Seal to produce a new full-colour HYPERBOREA map, and his work is phenomenal. The map will be much larger, measuring 32 x 40 inches. It will fold to 8-inch squares and tuck into the hardback.

- New Layout! The layout will be cleaner, easier on the eyes.

- New Editing! David Prata is back to comb through all the old text, repairing, reorganizing, and inserting all the new material. It is a mammoth of a job and he is already a good chunk through the thing.

There is much more going on, but I hope that satisfies your curiosity for now!

Cheers,
Jeff T.

Re: AS&SH 2nd Print?

Awesome thanks Jeff!  Is this going to be handled through Kickstarter like your other books or just through normal sales?  Any ETA when it will start?

Re: AS&SH 2nd Print?

Out of curiosity, how much are you changing the layout? I really liked how the Manuals have been handled so far; looked pretty easy to parse on screen (I have to admit, I mostly use PDFs when it comes to RPG books; hardcovers I only buy to put stuff on the shelf).

Yes, it will be a Kickstarter project. No, I don't have an ETA, because I want more art and more editing in the can before launching. With so much variability involved in that, I can't provide an accurate ETA yet.

The whole thing! It will be presented in a way that conforms to the latest module releases. The PDF will be bookmarked well for easy navigation.

This sounds great to me.

Awesome! I'm thrilled that you're bringing in the artists of the modules and also great folks like Sholtis and Nicholson. I think of Hyperborea as a very diverse setting and viewing it through a few different artistic lenses helps convey that variety, in my opinion. Can't wait to see what these talented folks bring to the table!

I'm sure this new map will be spectacular.

So do I.  The longer my players adventure there, diverse it gets.

Re: AS&SH 2nd Print?

Good news, all-around, Jeff!  Thanks for the peek behind the scenes!

By bringing in a new cartographer, will the new map also be rendered in a new style, and perhaps on heavier paper stock?  While I do like the old Cook Expert set mapping symbols for their spare and austere look, I would prefer a more artistic presentation of the Hyperborean world, if possible:  something gorgeous, but still useful at the gaming table.

I hope it'll still be hex-gridded too?  Or perhaps double-sided, one side in gorgeous hex-gridded glory, the other in a more artistic view that might reflect how the natives view their own world?----something akin to Kij Johnson's new map @ http://www.tor.com/2016/08/02/mapping-the-dreamlands-of-kij-johnsons-the-dream-quest-of-vellitt-boe/ or Jason Thompson's @ https://store.mockman.com/products/dreamland-poster-24x36

Anyway, just thinking aloud.  Thanks Jeff :D

Allan.
