Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor makes his way to the open gate of the cemetery. The light of his lantern falls on a myriad of paw prints in the snow at the opening made by -- WOLVES!

[Kondor roll d6.]

Paw prints?

Are the wolves still there?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Yes paws!

Kondor's expert tracking skills help him recognize the maze of prints made by a wolf pack.
The prints entered the gate at a slow deliberate gait.
And exit in a chaotic haphazard way, as if spooked  or chased.
Further- there is a lone set of human boot prints that strides over the whole mess into the woods off toward the great Shankshill mountain in the far west.

Sol shouts over the wind.

"We have to get inside! We'll freeze out here!"

You've lost sight of Kondor in the pitch.  The wind swallows your shouts.

Then, there in the dark through the whipping grasses, a brief flash of Kondor's lamp...

I make for it, being cautious not to run into anything or trip.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Sol makes it around the corner of the cemetery gate and finds Kondor kneeling at the snow examining prints in the snow.

On cue, howls erupt off in the wood to the west.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

"Let's get inside the building here. If the wolves come we can bottleneck them. A flame would do wonders, too. Maybe there's an interior door, too."

Kondor leads the way inside with Sol.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor enters the gate and quickly finds himself slapped around by the whipping, unkempt, tall grasses, but manages to see a thin path through the cemetery, between the violent lashings.

There are stone headstones on either side of the pathway, buried beneath the grasses.

If he’s still not in the cemetery, would Sol be able to see him and the lantern from where he was?  Kondor is hoping to have Sol with him.

Otherwise: heading in and following the path.

"Let's try for the path, but we might consider weathering the night and waiting 'till tomorrow."

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Reluctantly, Sol trudges through the snow and grass through the cemetery path. As they push through to the other side, the harsh winds suddenly  subside, blocked by the church building itself.

A 20 ft by 20 ft courtyard is encircled on 3 sides by the stone church. Two high windows are broken out on the left. Glass shards poke up through the fresh snow fall on the ground beneath.
To the right, a burned out door hangs open on its hinges, a dark space within.
Ahead in the right corner is erected a forty foot wooden belltower. There is a large oxidized copper bell hung from the top beam reflecting light from Kondor's lantern.

And littered on the ground are a dozen wolf carcasses burned and bloody.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

I rolled a 6, but was rolling as quietly as I could to not wake a napping baby... so if it's bad, do we get points for raising new people for the hobby?

So... yay?

I’m going to have Kondor make his way through the wolf carcasses to the door. Given the skeletons in the main temple he’s keeping alert for any sudden reanimations.

“Emral? Are you here? Blast it, sorcerer, I came through this to find you. Speak!”

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

As Kondor enters the courtyard, and focuses  his lantern across the carnage on the ground, Sol notices a strange pulse of the night sky - a spilt second slight brightening just one shade above the inky black.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor moves forward, peering inside the building with the burned doorway, his lantern and sword ready.

ooc: if all goes well, we'll have caught up to where the game was previously!  Is the rope still hanging down outside?  Is there still the rope hanging down inside??

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The pulse– does that mean anything to Sol? Is it coming from the whole sky or from a specific spot?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Sol has never witnessed anything like that pulse in his life. The whole of the inky pitch brightened 2 shades for a millisecond from horizon to horizon.
