This one catches a lot of flak, but it was my first metal album and made me a metalhead for life.

Picked up their new album the other day. Yes, it is a little more commercial, but it still kicks ass. I actually like the direction change; otherwise, things can get stale.

Picked up the new Fates Warning "Awaken the Guardian Live" featuring the original singer, John Arch. This is the 30th anniversary set with 2 CDs and 1 DVD, which features the two shows they did in 2016, playing the entirety of "Guardian" for the first time. If Iron Maiden did not exist, "Awaken the Guardian" by Fates Warning would probably be my favorite album of all time, so this release is pure joy for me. Power metal meets prog, with a vocalist scarcely matched in the history of metal. If John Arch hadn't stepped away from the scene for about 25 years, I don't believe he would be able to sing like this today at his age. This is a video clip from DVD:

Until the Black album, I'd never really cared for Metallica. I heard Sandman when it was dropped as a single, I was blown away and got the album. I've been a huge (older) Metallica fan since!

To Metallica? Absolutely. It immediately led me into Lightning and Master, never looking back. ![]()

"To Shatter All Accord" by Discipline. It is like Van der Graaf Generator re-incarnated with a better sense of melody.

If you guys like Dream Theater, you might like Haken. They've been doing shows with Mike Portnoy a lot lately. Here's a good tune:
