Small addendum for Clarence's story. There was a shooting star that passed
over about a month before the brain missing stories started.

Party heads out to homesteaders' location


Just past morning the group is inundated with a cloudburst.
Over the next 3 hours about 4 inches of rain fall.

During the night 10 bandits swarm the party.

Verg, Conan, and Torcan get quickly grappled.

Verg and Conan were able to break free.

Verg then slings ice darts from the ground and kills 2.

The party makes quick work of them.

60ep is found in their pockets

Just at the start of the day they stumble on small encampment of about 50 people.

Two groups of ten come towards the group.

Dude from the left hand group says "Give us all your stuff and we'll let go
go with your lives"

The party doesn't oblige

Verg blows the horn of valhalla and 10 berzerkers show up

Eventually the morale of the bandits break and run off. The called berzerkers
give them chase.

Searching the encampement 5 chests are found.

Chest 3, torcan misses the trap and gets a poisoned pin for his inattention.

3000 sp, 9500 gp, 50 pp, and 18 gems are found.

It's an action for me.

I guess you can rule they can pick it up and do another action but I might rule they are at some disadvantage that round. Maybe -1 to hit by them and enemy combatants get a +1 to hit. They aren't paying attention to combat is my idea behind this.

The rest of the Journey to Motts' Bailey is uneventful.

As they walk to the place they notice that there are many orchards
along and around the road.

The guards are dubious about them

"Don't f*** with people so we don't have to f*** with you" the guards command.

Pondering for a bit the guards continue, "On second thought, maybe start something so we can come finish it"

"Is there a place to eat, drink, and a bed?", asks Verg.

"Yeah"

The party goes in search of an inn and finds one.

As they enter everyone turns to look at them.

Server comes up and asks, "The f*** you want?"

Torcan asks, "What do you recommend?"

She rolls her eyes, "Food, cider, apple jack"

"Food for us, a round of cider for the house, and a bottle of apple jack for us."

They found out that Clarence is the local guild rep over at The Bad Apple.

The waitress harasses them a bit before the party calls it a night.

Verica's tattoo is done relatively quickly and Verg's takes

I need to add a little bit more detail to Hillvale since the party is going through it a bit. 

The party is heading to the coast of Brigand's Bay via the forest road you have on your map.

I didn't have a lot of time to think of a name but so far I'm going with Mott's Bailey. Ruled by Duke Mott...or King Mott...not sure yet. That's next week's problem.

There is talk to build the pyre in the barrow the longship was in and have
Conan fireball it again.

What wood that can be gathered in the rain is found and used to build a pyre
in the large barrow.

This takes of the day and then a fireball and let loose in the barrow.

The pyre didn't really seem to catch but Aldi's corpse did burn.

Conan tries Burning Hands to catch the pyre on fire but it fails.

The general consensus is that they didn't have a huntsman to help find
the proper wood for a funeral pyre.

Emmett decides to throw some greek fire on the pyre as well. The pyre
resists

"I tried", says Emmett.

At the start of 2nd watch a large thing is heard shuffling and snuffling around
but the Asulfr nor Emmett investigates.

The rest of the night goes by uneventfully.

Shortly after leaving for Hillvale the group surprises a pack of wild
dogs. It is decided to see what they do.

The dogs jog off into the fog.

It is slow going through the fog

In the afternoon a thunderstorm strikes. As the thunder and lightning
come down Asulfr is able to find the slight shelter of a small stand
of trees. At least they didn't get hit by lightning.

During first watch they meet Vigmundr and don't kill him.

At the end of 1st watch the ghostly maerling visits and a few
minutes later a shove at the door. Some norse cursing and steps going away

Towards the beginning of second watch a northern troll bursts through the north door.

Asulfr got hit first but Emmett, Vig, Verg, and kallisto
combine to kill it.

The party decamps to the other side of the southern door. They
stick a dagger in the door and do the same to the door at the
other end of the hallway they are in.

The flickering flames of the Haug-eldr make a visit during the
middle of second watch.

At the end of second watch another northern troll busts through
the door.

It makes several attacks on Asulfr. Then Kallisto steps in and
gives it some serious damage.

The party realizes that trying to rest in the dungeon is not a
bad idea.

They are able to get back up the slide trap and up to the
barrows.

There is a discussion about creating a pyre for Aldi but wait a day
to see if the weather lets up.

Minor glitch.

Basically treated a 5th level cleric as if they were 4th. Which might only affect CA, TA, and spell slots.

Looking back at the email exchange with the player about the new character it looks like the things might have been "ok". The pdf's look correct for a 5th level cleric. I think I noticed when some items weren't getting set correcting in the markdown files I have my local version output (in the list of things to migrate to the web app)

After a party member got very dead they went with a cleric that just happened to start at 5th level.

Funny thing, the pc generator was doing really weird stuff.

As it turns it there was a glitch, error, bug in the code.

The glitch has been fixed.

They leave the room, cross the octagonal room taking the western hallway.
The hallway twists and turns and ends in a door. Behind it is a room full
of debris and litter. Rotting food, some skulls, and broken arrows are
easily seen.

Torcan rummages for a bit and finds some broken pottery and a large, rusty
chain. He also search the area for secret doors and finds none. He does
give the chain to Verg to hold on to. Aldi walks up and pulls on it. Verg
drops it.

The party goes back to the octagonaly room and go north out of octogaon.
At the intersection they take a right and go throug the door at the end
of the hall.

In the room is a Maerling slaying an extended family.

verg walks up to the mural to check it out. As he gets close a trap
door opens and swalls him up.

Unbeknownst by the rest of the group Verg is attacked by 3 haug bui.

Verg throws ice darts and wounds a couple

Meanwhile Verica ties rope around herself and Torcan anchors it. She then
walks on and triggers the trap door. She slides about half way to the
other room before the trapdoor closes and binds the rope.

Verg throws his ice axe.

Verica decides to untie the rope and slides the rest of the way.

Kallisto decides she can't wait and takes the trap.

Verg throws some more ice darts, Verica misses and Kallisto stands up

Aldi runs to get the rusty chain while everyone else is figuring out a plan.

Kallisto wades into melee and hits her opponent who then tries to attack her but stumbles.

Go exploring until coming to an octagonal room with 4 hallways
leading out.

To the south is door that goes to an open room.

Going back and taking the hallway east. While Torcan checks
for traps it opens and he is attacked by 2 haugbui.

Torcan tries to Hold them but fails.

Two are killed, Torcan is able to turn the last one
and it is killed

While checking the room for secret doors the part is attacked
by 5 svart alfar.

They swarm into the room attacking Verg, Emmett, Asulfr, Aldi,

The patrol stops them, "Stop in the name of the Duke of Stonebrook"

"Returning from spelunking and adventuring", says Verg.

"What kind of adventuring and where?", the lieutenant asks.

"Taking care of the Witch Mounds."

"Ok, be on your way. Just behave yourself. I know how you adventurers get when
you get back to town"

They are stopped at the gates to the town.

The guards asks them their business.

"Going back home"

"Where's home"

"Southeast side, small mansion"

"Ok, don't cause any trouble"

Aldi and Torcan level up.

Torcan takes 8 days to train (finishing 577-03-12)
and Aldi takes 9 (finishing 577-03-13)

Emmett finds a room full of bones.

Torcan and Kalli investigate and Torcan finds a secret door.

It opens into what Torcan can only describe as an old treasury.

Everything is just scattered and piled up everywhere.

The find:

1,852 sp, 2,195 gp, 6 gems, a silver comb, 6 silver armbands, a bronze cup,
a potion , a scroll, and skis

Torcan looks at the scroll but can't understand it.

Verg looks and thinks there are 3 spells but he can only read 1, lightning bolt.

Conan looks and can't understand any of them.

The door is closed and watches are set as they decided to rest.

First watch goes by with nothing happening.

At the end of second watch some rats can be heard screeching and scurrying on
the other side of the secret door.

The end of third watch has the helmet of Thaumagorga appear and glare at Arsalion.

The last watch ends with some snorting and sniffling being heard through the day.

Decide to go back to the surface, and the return is uneventful.

Get back up and it's actually morning and not raining.

While waiting for Verg to no longer be paralyzed
the back of the party is jumped by 3 svart alfar.

Arsalion and Asulfr are able to dispatch them even with
a few stumbles and awkard attacks.

Verica loots them finding 9 copper arm bands and 30 gp.

The party continues forward and finds some stairs down.

The hallway at the bottom continues east, turns south,
and ends in a door.

Emmett checks it and opens it for Kallisto.

Beyond is a room filled with bas reliefs. They
are depicting Maerling warriors committing terrible
acts on people.

The other door in the north wall on the eastern edge is
taken to go out of the room is taken.

It leads to a four way intersection. The western
hallway is taken. It leads to an empty room.

There is hallway going west out of the room.

It turns north and ends with a door on the western wall.

Emmett checks it and opens it for Kallisto.

There is a door in the north wall. It has graffitti on it:

So many have fallen, so many more to die
-- like wheat before a scythe.
Our limbs are weary of cleaving blows
-- we face endless hordes of foes

As the room is inspected ancient blood stains and chips on
the wall are found

As those in the room are doing this those still in the
hallway are attacked by 3 northern trolls.

Aldi takes a big hit and everyone retreats to the room
and Torcan jams the door with a dagger.

A troll busts down the door. Torcan decided to attack instead
of running away. Kallisto chooses to come to Torcan's aid

Meanwhile Emmett leaves down the north hallway past the door. There
is also a hallway leading to the west.

Kallisto engages the troll in melee with Aldi is shooting at it and
Torcan is Praying to Rel.

The second troll is killed and

Over night a ghostly appartion beckons to the "south" and the
flickers out.

Just before it's time to wake up a vision of thaumagorga appears,
stares at Verg and causes 1 HP of dmg.

Verg and Aldi go to where the red and blue doors are. The doors start insulting and
harassing them. Verg decides to chop through the blue door.

During the chopping a Vision of Thaumagorga appears and stares at Verg. A barrow
fire appears as well.

After chopping through the blue door he starts on the red. During
that a swarm of 15 rats attack Verg. He is able to ice dart most of
them and avoid disease due to his periapt of health. Although one of the
rats accidentally bites another rat and kills it.

They are visited again by a ghostly Maerling beckoning them towards the south east.

Eventually the red door is cut through.

The take the hallways that go roughly south east. This leads back to the room with
the funeral long ship. They go through the southern door in that room and keep
going south. Beyond is a short hall with a door at the end of the hall and one
in the western wall. The door at the end of the hall is open. They enter a room
with 2 doors, one east and one west. The room also has 2 very life-like statues of Maerlings.

As they are checking things out 2 svart alfar enter from the western door in the hallway.
Arsalion and Asulfr take care of them.

Both doors are looked through and the eastern door is chosen to go through.

It turns out to lead to a twisty maze. Wandering through it part of it
leads back to the room with the statues.

Verg takes the door to the east. It leads to a 4 way intersection
and beyond that to the east is a door.

At the intersection they see a door to the north. To the south the
hallway continues and then looks like it turns east.

The northern door is inspected and then opened. There is a room
with a door on the northern wall, a door in the eastern wall, and
a hallway in the western wall that leads to a door. The room is
barren otherwise.

The northern door is taken. Beyond it is a hallway that curves to the west.
Kallisto and Verica take the lead. It goes to a 4 way intersection. To the
north it goes a little bit until it hits a T intersection. To the west
is a door. To the south is a hallway that eventually turns west.

They go south and just past the turn is a door. Verica checks it and
Kallisto opens it.

The northern wall of this room is covered
with a large mural depicting an immense ash tree. The upper
branches reach into the heavens, while the roots delve deep
into the ground. This is recognized by the Vikings of the group
to be the Tree of Life, known as Yggdrasil
As the mural is studied they notice a number of unsettling things.
The wood of the tree is beginning to rot and decay.
Hanging in the upper boughs are a number of humans, rotting and swinging from
nooses. Writhing through the roots are numerous demonic
creatures, hideous to behold as they gnaw upon the roots and
slowly poison the tree.

After staring a bit longer they believe that they see movement in the mural,
