Love what you've done. My nitpick is this, and maybe it's just a matter of taste, but I feel like your combat matrix is going in the wrong direction.

Hmm... I think that's probably an easy fix, with paint.  Let me see what I can do here in a few.  Thanks for the comments, also, Jeff. I'll update the original post with both sheets once that change has been made, and modify the other mid-post I made.  The OP will have both sheets now.

As I grow in age, I get more and more close to the straight 3d6 roll as the standard for desirable stat ranges.  But, dice are fickle buggers indeed, and of course there needs to be some variance (at least in my opinion) that straight 3d6 just won't offer except in extreme cases.  I suppose the range of scores I look for these days are pretty indicative of the scores to be found in the back of B1.  Not extraordinarily high, and probably extraordinarily low in comparison to today's standards!  But still offering some variance between character stats, although not a huge amount, and also offering some variance within a character itself.

Now that Chain has shared EOTB's method, I think I'll experiment with that but using only 3d6 to find my particular 'sweet spot'.  I've just been dying to find a 3d6 only method that doesn't result in a string of 7's, haha, and yet doesn't make me feel like I've created yet another 'enhanced' character with stats that are just silly.  I tend to get this from the 4d6 drop low rolls, as I tend to get more than a few 15+ stats on a single character.  As I've never been one of those player's or DM's who believes a character isn't capable of play unless he's got a positive bonus in every stat, I end up finding this distasteful.  EOTB's method may be the winner for me, in the hunt for a middle-ground 3d6 method, that offers a couple of area's of strength, and still keeps a couple of areas of mediocrity or actually sub-normal range.  Nice!  Thanks for sharing that, Chainsaw!

*points above*

Methinks someone started this thread to brag!

... But you know what?  If I owned those beautiful pieces, I'd be bragging too!  They are both great, but I really love the duo versus the Hydra!

Color me jealous as hell, bro!  ... To be honest, if I could own one of the original pieces of art from the books, I think my first choice would be the Necromancer piece.  I know I called for favor of the cover art, and this was in no means to slight Ian for his amazing interior work.  My choice, I should reiterate, was due to the fact that I think AS&SH's cover does a smashing job of slapping the onlooker in the face with what sort of fantastic adventures can be had inside the box.

... Well, I'd like to own the fish-man piece too, or perhaps the Mi-Go, or perhaps the Elder Thing, or... Dammit, I'm doing it again

Great score, Chainsaw!

Okay, the OP contains both sheets:  The original, and the sheet with Morgan's changes (listed as 'alternate').  Both sheets will now incorporate the change in the 'roll to hit ac' bar that Ghul noted.

Okay, Jason... I've sent you a copy of the PDF and also the .odt to your listed email address. I'm just going to re-affirm that I'm not attempting to steal from you my good man :D

Take care!

The current character sheet is very thorough but a bit overwhelming to new players.  I would like to see a simplier more graphically exciting character sheet but am too lazy / busy / limited in talent to make it myself.
On the one you created I would add a place to note FA, TA, CA, and perhaps some room for class abilities.  I like the direction you are going however.

Morgan

Morgan,

Thanks for the input!  While I initially decided that TA, CA, and class abilities could be listed under 'Notes', (well, I'd place CA under 'Spells'), I definitely see these as good additions.  Let me play around with it and see what I can do.  For FA, I suppose it could be listed above the 'roll to hit AC' bar thing.  Give me a few, bro... I'll see if I can whip something up.  This kinda stuff is fun, haha.

Hello everyone,

I'd like to upload an item I've mashed together for any of you who may be interested.  It's a very minimal character sheet, suitable for PC's or NPC's as you see fit.  I feel it's still functional and even a little attractive.

I don't have any problem at all with the official character sheet itself; Point of fact, I quite love it!  But, there are times when I just want something that is barely more than a sheet of college-ruled paper (as only heretics and ner'do wells use wide-ruled!).  I feel this sheet can fit the bill.

This sheet is based off of the one that Wizardawn uses over at his website (http://www.wizardawn.com/rpg/index.php) for his "Adventurer's Guild" resource, with a few modifications to make it more suitable for AS&SH.  I hope it's ok for me to go ahead and pimp his site a little, and tell you all that there is quite a wealth of good gaming resources to be had if you visit there!  He's also a pretty friendly dude, which is a bonus.

I had no idea where to post this, but after recieving permission from WD to go ahead and upload it here, I chose this sub-forum to do so.  I hope that's ok!

So, without further ado, let's see this sheet, shall we?  \

The first sheet is the original, very minimal sheet.  The second one (labeled as 'alternate') incorporates some minor fields suggested by Morgan (notably, 'Fighting ability, Turning ability, Casting ability, and Class abilities).  Both sheets now show the correct AC progression in the 'roll needed to hit AC' table, as Jeff had pointed out that the negative numbers were first on the right.  Doh!

I went ahead and removed the .odt's; just let me know if anyone wants them and I'll repost them.

Cheers, guys!  And happy gaming.  -Tim

Thanks guys!

Don't worry about doing editing for personal use (as long as it isn't reposted). These are pretty much first drafts I did for blog posts. I need to get back to this. I'm doing a bit of fiction writing at the moment so some of my other types of postings have slowed down a bit.

Bold emphasis mine.  Jason, I wouldn't dream of re-posting your work, bro... I'm not interested in insulting you

What I meant was, if you personally would like the .odt file or the pdf to see how it looked and to check out the pic I used for your "Living Dead" creature.

Either way, thanks again for this dude... I'll be watching this as you continue to develop it for sure!

I'm really enjoying that Firelake song, Merctime.

I'm glad your digging it, bro... It's got a pretty awesome groove in my opinion for metal.

I know it's probably a mild turn-off to hear that it's from a video game, but those firelake dudes (well, some of them in the band), actually helped produce the game.  Can't remember the name of their company offhand, but I thought that was cool that they coded or did graphical work or something.  And, the fricken music rocks socks, bro!  Might do a search for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Firelake on youtube for more of their music.  Some of the lyrics are in the Russian language I believe (or some slavic language... I forget which country they are from).  Good stuff!

Hey, Jason, loving this man!  I've actually PDF-erized this, and did some minor editing (some spelling etc) here and there in apache open office.  I was wondering if you'd like the PDF and the .odt file of the stuff I've done with this?  By the way, man... No offense on the editing I did.  It was just a natural reaction as I was playing around with your work here to PDF it.  And I haven't added anything to it, well... Except for one picture I found on Deviantart for your new "Living Dead" monster.  I just copied and pasted it without the guy's permission as I don't intend to sell your work or his, of course.  I'm sure he wouldn't mind granting permission for a fan project like your doing.  And, It's easily deleted.  Just asking!  Thank you for this effort... Great humor and awesome AS&SH gaming material here!

Dude... DUDE.  THIS song.  It's by a band you might not have heard of, unless you played an older video game called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky.

It's... moody, exotic, and swings from a haunting 'Get You Ready For It' melodic lull to a 'Metal-Thrashing-Mad' mosh-inspiring speed.  Seriously, check this song out; but please don't send me the doctor bill if you injure yourself in your fevered gyrations!

When I listen to this and think of AS&SH, I think of a party cresting a savanna-covered hill overlooking a small Ixian town or city in the distance; thereby encountering those people in they're strangely exotic home environment for the first time.

I have to go with the cover, also.  Not because it's color... The interior art is astoundingly good.  But, that cover!  To me, it just immediately screams at you what this game is about.  Bold, brash, dangerous... Beautiful.

Although the Necromancer is very evocative as well.  Oh, good grief...  There's so much great art in this thing it's really hard to choose, man!  The Fish-Man is really cool, too.  ...Ok, I have to stop or I'll type too much!

For me, the winner is the cover art.

For pure beauty, and sturdy utility, one cannot beat AS&SH.  And then, the sheer fun and easy playability of the ruleset inside!  This box set is full of "Win".  Best fifty bucks I ever spent.

Hi folks, Merctime here.  But... There are some who call me... "Tim"?

Some of you may recognize my username from ODD proboards and Knights and Knaves, wherein I lurk most efficiently on a semi-regular basis.  That be me.  I've chatted here and there with a few of you, and look forward to doing so with all of you in the future.

I'm an older gamer, who's been out of real table-top gaming for over 20 years but still love the hobby.  AS&SH is easily my favorite of the new re-skins of the world's most famous game.

I'll still be lurking alot here, as I'm going through training for a new job that is incredibly time consuming.  But, I thought I should come over here and register, and also say hello to everyone while I have the time to do so.

If Ron Redmond posts here, I'd like to offer him a personal apology:  I had to drop my online B/X game like a hot rock a few months ago over at the online board he moderates at due to my job training, and have not been able to visit the site since.  Ron, I am truly sorry Sir.  When I have a moment I'll go and PM yourself and the other fellow who was quite helpful to me there.  Ah, Real Life!  What a treacherous companion are you!

Looking forward to reading the forums, hearing everyone's wonderful ideas, and learning about the new goings-on with AS&SH.  With a 6 day work schedule for the indeterminate future in my horizon I won't be posting much, but I'll try to stop in and offer some fun gaming stuff or at the very least some pedantic sillyness as my time and mood allows!  If nothing else, I hereby wish all of you a wonderful day, and many great gaming sessions to come, and good health to all of those whom you care for.  Happy gaming!

Tim
