Read several years ago, maybe even of more interest currently...
Opening paragraph is what makes it of Hyperborean utility:

“...a city of scavengers. Just the names alone read now like some kind of exotic zoological catalogue: bone-pickers, rag-gathers, pure-finders, dredgermen, mud-larks, sewer-hunters, dustmen, night-soil men, bunters, toshers, shoremen...at least a hundred thousand strong.

Some of those terms are from Victorian thieves cant. Might be worth digging around a bit.
