What are the dimensions of the room thus far? I've been taking notes, but I want to be sure. Mine assume it's a copy of the kitchen, but I'm thinking it goes under the courtyard now.

cannot get this ascii to line up when i press return
but the room is 10 x 20
(so under the west half of the kitchen)(this map south is ^)

From the bottom of the stairs, Emral casts his 2nd and final Flaming Sphere. Following the command of the warlock's outstretched pointed finger, It slowly rolls up the stairs toward the door, where it stops and spins.
The door's heavy wood slowly begins to smolder.

ooc: Just so we're clear, the room is 20x10 with the 20 pointing south rather than towards the door of the kitchen (east)? So it goes beyond the kitchen and toward the courtyard?

IC: Emral focuses on the spell, maintaining it with his willpower as long as he can. He wills the sphere to blast through the wood of the door, wills the door to shatter, to ignite, as wood must when flame claims it.

Emral continues, elated as he unleashes the sphere. To his eyes the roiling ball is filled with dancing forms, of fire nymphs and salamanders, gamboling within the orb more excitedly as the wood burns, calling him to feed them, feed them... free them!

The ecstasy lasts until the spell ends, and he recovers his will enough to cage the flames and ignore their song.

He recovers himself and then inspects the damage he allowed the fire to do this time...

The Flaming Sphere spins out into its otherworldly existence leaving the door burned through, though still held in place but the round metal posts in the top and the bottom of the far right board which extend into the stone frame – and through the charred boards, the dim light of the fireplace beyond.

"Right. Let's see what closed the door on us and if we can, rest up. Locking people into a wine cellar until they drink themselves to death is... unlikely, as far as traps go. Plus what exactly the children were fleeing from down here before they reanimated. I wonder if there isn't something more going on with the dome room. It's going under the courtyard, so maybe something out there leads down here? I want to get my Flaming Spheres back, then let's consider the bell tower and the cemetery. And... well, laying the bodies to rest. Hopefully the bones up there aren't waiting for us!"

His tone is frank, matter of fact, like this is normal on any sort of level: animated undead, cursed villages, murdered villagers and children. All in a day's work for the sorcerer.

"Did we leave the fire burning? I don't remember."

Emral heads up the stairs, sword ready for undead or ambush. He peers out first, before going through.

Actually they were left on the first step down, so I put you up there at top of stairs, and Emral just below with the light the blades are rusty.
