Amazon is making a Conan the Barbarian TV series! They are closely basing it on the original Robert E Howard stories. I have a lot of questions, but mostly I'm excited. The creative team seems very capable.
I'm trying to stay cautiously optimistic and will definitely take a look but I think Howard's Conan is too niche for television. The money backing television and movies tends to be extremely conservative and loathe to deviate from the well-trod pathways and tropes that put asses in seats. I can easily imagine an Amazon executive constantly tinkering with the show, removing things which might offend and adding things that will attract viewers until it's a mess. I hope my gut instinct is proven wrong and the show turns out to be excellent because it would have a die-hard fan in yours truly.
Okay who am I kidding, I am looking foward to this series with fingers crossed. I mean, the 1982 movie Conan wasn't exactly Howard's Conan but it's still an excellent film.
