Mountain apes and hold person

Specifically, do mountain apes count as humanoid for the purpose of hold person?

RAW, yes: Hold Person affects humanoids, and mountain apes are described as humanoid.

Mountain apes are described in the Referee's Manual as "massive, humanoid brutes", so I don't think this is a debatable case.
