Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Narrhil enters the stair inside the wall, there is a dead hound at the top of the stair.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

'Three dead,' muses as he entered the kitchen, he drops the nub and unslings his battle axe, using it as a probe before him; if something jumped at him, they would have to bypass the axe's blades to get at him. Wand at ready, he moves to the kitchen door to the temple's worship chamber.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Climbing over the dead Hound he uses the axe to push open the cellar door. and in the circle of his C LIGHT beginning a foot away is yet another hound splayed motionless on the floor near the burnt out doorway out of the kitchen.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

"A forth," he mutters to himself, his teeth grinding, "Yikkorth is watching," he believes.

He still moves to the entrance to the temple-main. He hopes that any hound that attacks will get a mouthful of battle axe, and its eyeballs frozen by his wand of freezing...

[Narrhil had kept kitchen door open, so they could follow him and enter into his trap.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Narrhil ponders why the fourth hound would wait above and close the door behind the 3 hounds that descended.

Plain as day on the floor of the sanctuary between the remaining unmoved pews lay a fifth dead hound in the thin layer of snow and ice.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

It is strange, how the hounds were stack in a row, many feet away from the cellar, perhaps they died as they fled, but he could not relax; one more was still unaccounted for...

He carefully scans the temple, and looks for any pawprints leading back out of the kitchen to any other part of the temple-main chamber.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

All prints lead from the dead temple hound to the kitchen.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Narrhil puzzles, 'there was six, where is the other.' He scans for more prints as he carefully moves to the main barricaded door (is there much left of it?) searching for the last hound.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The doors are as he left them, bound with rope to 2 pews pulled against them to help somewhat better block up the opening. The CON LIGHT ends just at/before the doors.
The prints are only his own between the dead hound #5 and the entrance doors.
The snowfall begins to carry tiny pieces of sleet, which richochet in slight plinks off Narrhil's armor and axe blade.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

[I believe he dropped a torch at the main door, is it still there?]

[Yes, on the floor at the door.]

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

[Good!]

Still being cautious, Narrhil makes sure every corner of the temple main has no devil dog hiding in its recesses, and then goes quietly to the main door.

If the large chamber is secure, he slings his battle axe once more, and picks up the torch. He lights it and uses it to try and illuminate outside the temple; by thrusting it through the large hole the hounds used to enter the temple by, and strains to see what is outside.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Narrhil looks around, the room is empty.
The sleet is steady.
The only prints at the door are his his and the one dead hound, the other prints lead from the dead hound to the kitchen.
The hole is the space that Narrhill and companions have been entering through between the pews tied to the broken doors. Only allowing one at a time movement.
The torch flames to life and Narrhil puts it and his eyes through the opening.
At the far edge of the the torchlight a lone hound sits on its hind haunch.
So you are alone then I am alone.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

"If you wish to talk, hound of Hell, then do so!" Narrhil was ready to blast the creature with cold air from the wand in his hand.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The hound makes no move at the sight of the wand coming through the crack of the door to join the torch and the face budding out of it.
"He summons thee," croaks the hound. Its raspy, dark,  and broken voice struggling to form your language on the cold air.
