'The magic is gone, a gift from the passing entity,' he thinks, 'still, this object could be important. Perhaps it has something to do with the key?' He also wonders how the ring on his hand is functioning.
He moves back to the location he had crouched before, and casts detect magic on the pin, the ring, then he tries again to direct the searching magic at the portal. Perhaps the magic of the pin and the portal were similar?
The incantation leaves his lips and Narrhil's wand shimmerlights.
Narrhil's ring shimmerlights.
Shimmerlight seeps from Narrhil's pack.
The worm shimmerlights.
And the withered corpse shimmerlights.

Narrhil examines the withered corpse first, 'what was making it glow?'

Narrhil peels what's left of the decayed robes away. The once taut rawhide skin has begun to lose its shape and a rapid decay, long postponed, has begun, long pieces falling away in chunks from the hardened bone beneath, the once crystalized blood in the crisp skin now flaking away like soured black goo.
The shimmerlight doesn't focus on anything specific, Narrhil believes the entire man radiates the magic.

Narrhil looks at himself, to see if he shimmers...

The ring on his finger and the wand in his hand do.
The hands themselves once did while inked, but no longer.

'So, why if I not radiating magic, why would a corpse?' pondered Narrhil, 'is he the key?'
Narrhil moves the corpse closer to the portal, attempting to see if something activates.

The huge worm completely covers the depression in the stone floor that Narrhil believes is the portal.

Narrhil leaves this quandary and returns to the crawlspace, wand ready to shoot. He looks out to see what is there, and listens for any danger...

There is a frozen hound blocking the other end of the crawlspace.

Narrhil tries to see beyond the frozen carcass, he is tense and uncertain; if he had to crawl down space to remove hound, how would he fare...?

the hound head fills almost all of the opening down there. Narrhill sees light.
No movement. No sound.

Narrhil curses the bulk blocking his way out. If he had only harmed one, the other five would be waiting for him above.
He looks back to the portal the great worm rest on, then to Tillak, unmoving, near dead; he was truly being tested in this ruin. Was Yikkorth preparing him for greater things, or was he doomed to die like the rest...

The way is not completely blocked, almost, and the carcass could surely be pushed aside he thinks?
If there is another hound in the cellar it is the quietest creature the cryomaster has ever encountered he thinks?
The great worm not merely rests, perhaps it is it which blocks he thinks?
Tillak isnt dead he is more simply gone he thinks?

Narrhil is content the worm guards and blocks the portal. He must now brave the cellar and excavated the crawlspace of the dead hell hound's carcass.
With wand in hand, he crawls along the shaft, prepare to activate the wand into the faces of his enemies. If he can, he dislodges the dead beast...

It's very tricky in the 2x2 with the wand in hand to push the snout out of the way but Narrhil manages enough to make way.
He emerges into the cellar. The frozen hound dead in row.
Narrhill can't see anything else in the area of the LIGHT.

He moves carefully through the cellar to the stairs, listening for danger.

[Will he move in darkness? or use that torch nub for the short stretch outside of his CON LIGHT circle?]

Narrhil lights the torch nub; it was best to be safe. Using the wall as protection, he quickly looks around the edge to see up the stairs, lighting it with the flickering flame.

The torchlight fills the rest of the cellar revealing a second flash-frozen hound blocking the stairwell.

Wand in hand, nub-torch in other. His newly acquired battle axe slung over his left shoulder. He careful steps over the second hell hound's corpse, and moves up the narrow stairway.
He was not inspired, four more hounds were nearby and Yikkorth could not be protecting him constantly; he needed to end this threat himself, or seek aid from the guardian worm downstairs. He moved up the stairs to the kitchen door, Again he cautiously looks into the next room, scanning the room, then out into the temple-main as quickly as he could...
