the rest of the day

The group of 15 heads off into the night.

The rest of the Journey to Motts' Bailey is uneventful.

As they walk to the place they notice that there are many orchards
along and around the road.

The guards are dubious about them

"Don't f*** with people so we don't have to f*** with you" the guards command.

Pondering for a bit the guards continue, "On second thought, maybe start something so we can come finish it"

"Is there a place to eat, drink, and a bed?", asks Verg.

"Yeah"

The party goes in search of an inn and finds one.

As they enter everyone turns to look at them.

Server comes up and asks, "The f*** you want?"

Torcan asks, "What do you recommend?"

She rolls her eyes, "Food, cider, apple jack"

"Food for us, a round of cider for the house, and a bottle of apple jack for us."

They found out that Clarence is the local guild rep over at The Bad Apple.

The waitress harasses them a bit before the party calls it a night.

The go to the Bad Apple to find Clarence,

They get there and it's just the bartender setting things up.

"We're looking for the Adventurers Guild rep and would like a drink"

"You mean Clarence? He won't be here until noon probably. Up late
drinking again."

He grumbles about damn outsiders wanting to drink so damn early

The bartender sits at the end of the bar whittling a wooden chain.

A couple of adventurer looking types walk in. Torcan nods at them
and they nod back.

Shortly before noon a group of sailors come in, take a table, and
start drinking.

Just after noon Clarence shows up.

Verg and Torcan walk over to his table.


"Hold on, let me drink my red eye first."

The bartender brings him a cup full of something. Clarence drinks it and belches.

"This guild stuff?"

"Yes"

He runs his hands over his face, rubbing his eyes, and runs his hands through his hair.

"Ok, now I'm ready"

"We're just checking in, wondering if there are any odd jobs or such available."

"Well, no paid gigs at the moment. However, knowing how you adventurer types like
to run into fires and such, there has been some stuff happening up along the coast."

"There has been talk of the folks, that for some reason choose to homestead out there
nowhere near other people, have gone missing. Even some hunters that go out to sell
meat her and other places around town have gone missing."

"The Duke, A number 1, duke of Motts Bailey, sent a small group out to check on these
rumors. They came back saying they found some bodies. The top of their skulls cut off
and their brains missing"

"That's fucked up, ever for this place. So that's about all I got.

You want your drink now or anything?", Clarence says as he waves his now empty tankard
where the bartender can see it.

"No, we're good", says Verg and the group heads back to the inn for another night.

(forgot to mention in session, added here) "I'm not one for omens, but about a month
before this started a shooting star streaked across the sky. It was going roughly
along the coast line. No one around here saw it land"

They walk about the hamlet so Torcan can get some replacement arrows. He is able to find
a fletcher.

During the walk he stops at a well for a drink. While doing so he checks out the gate area
of the motte, making note of the 6 guards standing there.

They eventually go back to the inn, find a table, and wait for someone to take their order.

The patrons don't look at them as much as they did the night before.

The server comes up, "Round for the house?" she asks.

"No, just a round for the table and some food", replies Torcan.

"Sorry folks, no round for the house?", she says as the rest of the
room looks at the party.

"A one time deal I guess", she says to herself as she wanders off to get the
food and drink.

The party decides they will spend the night and head up along the coast to see if they
can find what might be allegedly taking brains.

Torcan ponders to the group about who might want brains while looking at Arsalion.

"Who wouldn't want a brain?" retorts Arsalion.

"I mean, I wouldn't mind having one or two. It's kind of difficult though since we travel
a lot. Makes it hard to keep them. Them being so soft and squishy"

Arsalion's voice trails off as he gets a far off look in his eyes. He giggles a bit as
he gets lost in his thoughts.

The rest of the night goes by peacefully.

Small addendum for Clarence's story. There was a shooting star that passed
over about a month before the brain missing stories started.

Party heads out to homesteaders' location


Just past morning the group is inundated with a cloudburst.
Over the next 3 hours about 4 inches of rain fall.

During the night 10 bandits swarm the party.

Verg, Conan, and Torcan get quickly grappled.

Verg and Conan were able to break free.

Verg then slings ice darts from the ground and kills 2.

The party makes quick work of them.

60ep is found in their pockets

Just at the start of the day they stumble on small encampment of about 50 people.

Two groups of ten come towards the group.

Dude from the left hand group says "Give us all your stuff and we'll let go
go with your lives"

The party doesn't oblige

Verg blows the horn of valhalla and 10 berzerkers show up

Eventually the morale of the bandits break and run off. The called berzerkers
give them chase.

Searching the encampement 5 chests are found.

Chest 3, torcan misses the trap and gets a poisoned pin for his inattention.

3000 sp, 9500 gp, 50 pp, and 18 gems are found.

5 mounted people approach the party.

They are looking into the people that are losing their heads.

The party lets slip they killed some brigands.

"We noticed the carnage"

The cavalrywomen join the party on watches but are by their steeds.

During the night a pack of wolves approaches the party. Asulfr speaks
with them and tells them to go away.

They think about it, say "Ok", and leave.

The rest of the night goes by uneventfully.

About the middle of the day get to a homestead by the coast.

The building is made of stacked stones. Torcan and Kallisto go
to the door, knock on it, and get to reply.

Torcan opens the door and sees 2 bodies.

Verg and the horse lady as well as Vig and Torcan.

They note the top of the skull is cut very cleanly off and their is no
brain inside.

There is no blood anywhere.

The bodies have a couple of scorch marks on them. Verg notices a couple
other on the walls.

The corpses are rather stinky.

Torcan takes a filet knife he finds in the house.

They ask the cataphract what she think they should do with the bodies.

"They look to be fisher folk, throw them in the bay?"

So they do and spend the night in the house.

It is decided to go up the coastline to the next possible homestead and not the
one farther inland.

Before they reach the homestead a 50 foot diameter sink hole opens up centered on Asulfr.
Asulfr, Vert, and Torcan are able to jump out of the way. Vigmundr, Conan, and Emmett
fall 40 feet but they all survive.

They get to the house and find 2 bodies outside. That is, 1 body and 2 legs.

Three more are found in the building. Two are missing their brains and the third
looks like they died a normal violent death. There are scorch marks about.

The bodies are tossed outside.

It is decided to spend the rest of the day and night here since the weather is miserable.

The group decides to ride it out in the homestead

Shortly after the it is decided to shelter in place, there is a knock at the door.

Verg says, "Who is it?"

"Leif, is that you?", the voice on the outside

"Everyone that used to live here is dead. We didn't do it", says Torcan.

"come in and have some hot chocolate", offers Asulfr.

He comes in, "Yeah, you are not Leif. Who are you?"

"My name is Verg and these are my boys".

"What's your name?" ask Torcan.

"You can call me Xenia".

"How do you know the people?"

"I stopped by when I was in the area?"

"How did you say they died?"

"One of them had their brains removed"

"Ok"

Everyone gets to know each other.

The folks stay inside for the rest of the day and night waiting for the storm
to be done.

The party tries to head the homestead west of their location.

They don't find it after walking for most of the day.

The figure they are lost and set up camp.

Just after setting up camp 36 horseman ride up.

Pleasantries are exchanged. The horsemen have the livery of Motts' Bailey.

The horseman mention they visited the third homestead and found bodies.

The large group comes upon the lost patrol. Two of the four patrol members have lost
the brains.

Torcan speculates something in the water might be to blame.

Verg recalls the mention of a shooting star.

They ask Arsalion's opinion.

"Dead with someone with a thing for brains? Kinda spoils the usefulness of the corpse.
I hear tell of some creatures that take brains and do things with them.", Ars states.

Part ways with the patrol. The patrol states they will

There is a boat there that can hold 6 people.

The cataphracts look at the group preparing to row the
boat several miles and remark, "Why don't you drag the
boat to the closer homestead first?"

This takes the rest of the day to complete.

At midnight a swarm of rats scurry into the homestead

Conan casts Burning Hands and immediately kills 6 rats.
Arsalion kills one with his falcata.

The 2 horseladies kill rats

A rat bites a horselady

Conan casts flaming missile and kills 3 more

Arsalion kills a rat and then misses the second rat badly

Horse ladies kill 1 more

A rat is able to bite Kallisto

The remaining rats are killed

Just as the group gets into Motts' Bailey a cloud burst happens.

The party makes a run for the Rotten Apple.

Clarence says hi.

Verg relates the dead bodies found and the mysterious light on the island.
The problems getting to the island and not much else.

Torcan does add, "We got the ill gotten gains of someone else"

Verg asks about any fisher folk that could get them to the island.

"Zenobios could help you. An Amazon fella, a bit shorter than your Amazon friend" offers Clarence.
"Lives down by the shore"

They walk down to the shore. The instructions were forgetful enough that they aren't sure where Zenobios
is. They do see 2 boats that look like they would take a sail.

Verg walks to the less dingy looking one. As they approach the man closest to it Kallisto leans over
and whispers, "He ain't an Amazon".

So they head over to the other one.

"He's an Amazon", Kallisto remarks as they get close.

"Are you Zenobios?" Verg asks.

"Why yes I am" he says smiling very intently towards Kallisto.

"We would like to have you take us to and from an island about 15 miles up the coast."

"10 gold to get you there and back", Zenobios replies.

"Half now and half on our return then. When do we leave?"

"Not enough time today, so the next not awful day".

Take most of the day to get to the island.

Verg has Zenobios land on the west end of the island.

Emmett and Ars will stay behind to guard the boat and Zenobios.


Heading inland they run into 7 boars.

Verg throws ice darts but stumbles and they go into the dirt.

Several boars are killed by bow fire.

The rest continue their charge into the party.

Everyone finds a pig to attack.

Conan lands a mighty blow on the boar attacking him.

Verg ploughs several ice darts into the final boar.

Large chunks of meat are taken back to the boat.

During first watch Verg and Vig is a flickering light in the distance.

The rest of the night passes by uneventfully.

The party walks in the direction of the light Verg saw.

In the hills they spot what looks to be a roughly tetrahedral
object with a pulsing light atop it. It is several hundred yards away.

They cautiously approach it.

The tetrahedron is resting in a depression, as if it landed in it and
created a small crater. The object is about 10 feet high and 5 feet on
each side. The surrounding area looks like the vegetation was burned to ash.

Torcan investigates the nearest side and finds want might be a door with
a small, circular window. He can't see inside mostly because of the rain.

He investigates it and is able to figure out a way to open it.

As the door opens an intensely acid vapor escapes. Torcan gets splashed
by a small amount of corrosive liquid that runs out.

The inside looks like a cubby or small closet.

There is a rectangle that is kind of glowing. It looks like a map.

It resembles the island they are on, the surrounding islands and the
mainland area.

There is a light in the center of the map and in roughly the location they
are at on the island.

There is another light that is flashing. It is about 3 lengths of the island
away. It is roughly aligned with the long axis of the island as well.

Torcan gets Verg's confirmation of this, too.

The rest of the object is investigated. Nothing of obvious value is found.

Looking at the rest of the sides they see one section that looks like it exploded or
something because a large chunk is missing. The area has what look like scorch marks around it.

Torcan makes a sketch and everyone heads back to the boat.

They have Zenobios take them ashore.

They rest for the night.

Just before making camp they come across the broken remains of the vehicle like the one
from the people that made the ship disappear in the Lug

The group comes upon 3 small structures and a large structure.

The 2 of the smaller structures are hexagonal shapped and between them
is a "stretched" hexagon. They don't look like wood or stone, sort of metallic.

A door on each of the smaller hexagons can be seen. Emmett excited goes up to
the hexagon on the right and checks out the door.

The side of the larger structure beyond the 3 smaller ones has what look to be
5 very large, metallic pipes sticking out of it.

As Emmett opens the door he is shot by two very pale, androgynous people. One crackles
like lightning and the other is like a bright spark. The spark paralyzes him.

The noise brought out 2 more people that were in the hexagonal hut on the left.

Torcan is shot by the paralyzing spark but resists it and it just Slowed by it.

Vig runs and pushes Emmett out of the doorway.

Kallisto and Verica use their bow and sling respectively to attack the newcomers. Verg
throws ice darts at them.

A duo arrives from the "north" and one shoots Arsalion with a laser rifle.

Verica it hit by a paralyzing shot but only gets Slowed.

Asulfr runs behind the elongated hexagon until he can cast Entangle on the 2 albinos
on the left. Meanwhile Kallisto shoots a northern attacker. Vergs throws more ice
darts at the Entangled folks.

Vig gets in the doorway and attacks with his sword.

Conan decides to put a Fireball on the 2 norther attackers. Arsalion's following
bolt kills one of them. Verg's ice axe kills an Entangle foe.

Conan gets hit by a shot from a laser rifle.

Asulfr shoots arrows at the remaining Entangled. Arsalian fumbles his crossbow and it
falls 5 feet in front of him.


Another duo approaches from the northwest side of the large structure.

Arsalion lightning bolts the 2 new folks on the northeast side. He gets a shot by a laser
rifle in return.

Vig Commands one of the people in the hexagon structure to Die. They fail their save and go down.

We pause the session here.

The pale beings run off. The last entangled one is killed as
well as the 2 in the hexagonal hut.

Emmett stays in the hut with the 2 dead bodies.

Torcan takes the spherical tipped pistol and Kallisto is given
the cylindrically tipped pistol.

Torcan hands his pistol Verg, and Kallisto hands her pistol to Ars. Then
Torcan and Kallisto pick up the rifles.

On this side of the structure is a flat, steel looking surface at about
head height that's about a foot thick. It looks sturdy enough to stand on.

There looks to be a "tear" in the structure. It looks like metal that
has been torn by paper. To the right of that are 3 more hexagonal structures.
A "stretched" hexagon is between the 2 regular hexagons.

Verg walks to the "wound" in the structure, sees a pale figure, and fires
his pistol. It "washes" out after about going 15 feet. Creating a glow. He
then picks up a pebble, throws it, and it bounces off the invisible-until-hit-barrier.

Verg keeps on eye on the people inside. Torcan checks out the small hexagon hut by
the tear in the structure.

Torcan, Asulfr, and Vigmundr take a tour around the structure and the buildings.

Torcan checks out the "stretched" hexagonal building.
Torcan and Asulfr go inside are benches and shelves and unrecognizable equipment.

On the benches and shelves are cylinders. They are filled with liquid and there are
brains floating in them. On the bottom edges are flashing lights and buttons.

The 2 regular hexagons look to be very sparely equipped living quarters. Just 2 beds
and 2 small tables.

The front right "corner" of the structure is very dented metal. The Front itself
is generally rounded.

There are 3 more hexagon structures to the north, a stretched one with r
egular ones on either side.

On the left side is that same grouping of 3 hexagonal structures.

The stretched hexagon  on the left side of the bigger structure is inspected.
Inside are more shelves of brains in cylinders. Along the opposite wall are
benches and a tub looking thing.

Torcan looks in the tub and sees a brain and 2 eyes floating in it and many tendrils
connecting them. It freaks him out and he runs out of the building. Vig follows him.

Torcan tries to explain what he saw.

Torcan then considers climbing on top of the structure. Asulfr offers to transform into
a bird and fly around.

The top of it looks like the bottom side of a boat, rounded and smoothish. There do no
appear to be any entrances on the top. Two are found further down on the left side
from where the group is.

Entrances are found but Torcan can't figure out how to open either of them. They look
to just be flat, steel doors without handles

The inspection continues around the ship to end up at the "rear" of it.

The 2 entangled bodies are missing. There are drag marks to the stretched hexagaonl
building.

The group goes inside and sees Emmett standing over the 2 bodies on the table. Emmett
is holding some odd, nasty looking implements.

"Hey guys", he says.

He shows off the cool stuff he found on the 4 bodies. The "best" one is a short rod
that extends to 10 feet long when a button is pushed and shrinks back down after it
is pushed again.

Torcan has Emmett try to open the doors. Emmett can't find a way to open it.

It is theorized that maybe the pale people have some kind of keys on them.

Vig, Torcan, Emmett, Conan, and Asulfr investigate the 2 dead bodies by the rear left corner
of the structure.

They have jumpsuits made out of a strange cloth. Each has a short sword that looks to be made of crystal.
Finally they each are wearing a white bangle.

Torcan takes a crystal sword and drags a body to the northern most door on the left side. Emmett takes the bangle off the other body.

The pale ones get many shots into Torcan. Torcan drops the body and shoots his laser rifle into one.

Vig charges in and engages one in melee.

Torcan casts Hold Person and Holds 2 of them along with Vig.

Verg casts his Ray of Enfeeblement but the invisible barrier stops it. After several rounds of watching
the combat Vergs runs around the ship to join in the fray.

Slowly the albinos paralyze members of the party one by one even while they lose several of their own.

The do have reinforcements come up a hallway about the same time Verg makes it inside.

Kallist, Arsalian, and Verica take off as they see the tide of battle going against their party members.

Torcan and Emmett get paralyzed.

Verg rushes into melee, swings he quarterstaff, and hits Torcan with the full weight of his strike.

The party can't see what is happening inside. Conan is keeping watching until an albino appears in
the doorway and shoots at him.

Conan charges them with his quarterstaff but misses.

The albino steps back and attempts to shoot but fumbles the pistol and it lands at Conan's feet.

Conan picks ups the pistol and returns fire and paralyzes them.

Just afterwards Kallisto, Arsalion, and Verica rush past Conan and inside.

They see Torcan, Verg, and Emmett cuffed hands to cuffed feet.

Verica is paralyzed but Kallisto presses the attack wielding her long sword two handed.

Arsalian unleashes his last Lightning Bolt. It strikes two of the albinos dead and bounces down a hallway
and doesn't return.

Kallisto lands 2 lethal blows to the last standing albino.

Meanwhile Conan is killing the paralyzed albinos with his short scimitar.

As Conan, Arsalion, and Kallisto are assessing things the door in the northwest
corner opens.

Conan sees 2 more and shoots the one in the front and paralyzes it. Arsalion runs into
the hallway and Kallisto runs in behind him.

Kallisto is able to tackle and hold down the second albino in the hallway.

Eventually all the albinos are killed.

After waiting in the hallway long enough every is mobile again.

Emmett is sulking after having had to watch Conan push various buttons on a console
while he was paralyzed.

Check out the room past the door at the north end of the hallway. See a wall with
pictures of things like the room they had the big fight in, outside, rows of jars
with brains in them.

Verica, Verg, Kallisto, and Vig check the door in the center of the north wall in the
of the room where the fight happened. Inside is a chair. On the walls are a picture of
what looks like one of the buildings

Conan opens the door in the southwest corner of the room. It is mostly empty except
for what looks to be a box or two and a bench looking table.

The party then goes down the hallway in the southeast corner of the room. It leads south.
At the south end is a door. About halfway down there is a door in the west wall.

Kallisto leads the party and opens the door to the west. There are some tables with chairs
and benches. There are buttons on the walls and what look to be small (6 inch by 12 inch)
doors that look similar to the doors in this structure.

The group goes down the hallway. Verica checks the door at the south end.

It opens up into a large room with a door in the west wall that probably leads to the southern
most exterior door. The northeast corner is really an angle and a door in it, and there is
a hallway going south in the southwest corner of the room.

The room has some tables and chairs and more little doors in the walls and buttons beside them.

The door in the northeast opens to a small room with a sink and what looks like an outhouse/water closet seat.

The hallway ends in a cubby/alcove with some chairs at a table. The one wall has drawings of the jars that
hold brains.

Torcan takes a bangle that seem to be needed to open the exterior doors and gets some air. He notices it is
very late in the day.

The party decides to camp out in this last room.
