Are we not in a room at base of a tower? If so, then I think that there is someone at top who is creating this maelstrom.]
If Tillak looks out he can see they glow. There is no "tower", there is a rickety wooden staircase leading up into the dark sky in the courtyard.

Narrhil wait patiently while Tillak and Votin worked at the doorway. He turn and watches Kéet find a place to lie. The man had been captured by the Half-men for many days before they had arrived. This would be the first day of freedom he could sleep in some kind of peace. "I will guard you as you sleep," he said to him.

Narrhill's pity turns to admiration as he realizes the poor thin thief lying on the stone floor has even given up the bed to someone else.

Votin wraps a scrap of cloth around his hand before he picks the shard up and examines it more closely with a feeling he's probably going to regret it.
"Any idea what this is?"

The ice shard is 9 inches long, shaped like a dagger, within its tip there is a small violet pea of light.

Narrhil places his winter blanket over Kéet and his winter robes. The ring of warmness making this harsh land feel comfortable. He sits close by, horseman's pick in hand, keeping a watch on his sleeping comrade in case of giant white rats, or some other beast, or restless spirit of this condemned church.

Votin takes the shard and traces patterns(doodles) on the ground using the shard like a writing utensil.

Tillak is used to the cold. "If we are bedding down for the night, then we should have watch standers."

{Narrhil can stay awake. If we did 2 hour shifts, we can try get our 8 hours each. Of course we need to learn spells later.}

"It is one of the ice shards from outside...see, it has a faint glow but nothing else happens with it...it is not for me to understand perhaps you can figure it out it's magic?"
Votin carefully hands over the shard still wrapped in the rag.

Votin gets comfortable as best he can to try and rest.
"Wake me up when necessary for watch...is the door bolted and secured?"
[Who's going first?]

We are still back at KEET is asleep in the NW corner, wrapped in NARRHIL's winter things.
VOTIN tries to hand over the ice shard wrapped in rag to TILLAK.
Does Tillak take the shard? Doing anything with it?
Where will every one be sleeping? Where will the first watch sit?

Tillak looks at it. Does he recognize the magiks cast on it? He looks for runes or markings? [Any XP for our current activities? ]

Narrhil look's up from his watch and sees Tillak holding the ice shard. He ponders, "we should be safe, unless it an ice worm's egg?"
Narrhil is of coarse is interested in the object, but he is drained from the last few days of constant conflict with the unknown forces of this region. It can pull a soul out of time, and then place them in limbo for months, which seems would seem like only a few days in this world.
Was he next...
