Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

“Thanks.“ Kèet absentmindedly chews o the food. Well I guess in that case no need to skulk about out here. Let’s get to it and hope for the best. I imagine we wouldn’t last long out here anyway might as well die warm.” With that he heads on out towards the church, doing his best not to make noise.

It is immortality of a sort.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Keet Gooch sneaks off into the darkness toward the church leaving Tillak still gnawing the rawhide, and Narrhil clutching the new torch.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The harsh wind picks up as they trudge through the snow, the single torch whipping hard with sharp shadowplay.
Through the flurries the torchlight sees a few pieces of wrought iron fencing poking out of the deep snow in front of the church.  Beyond they can just make out two 20 ft wide buildings and between a rising dark mass into the black sky.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

"What are these..., out-buildings?" ask Narrhil. He had not seen them on his approach to the church when he had first arrived at the enclosure.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

“I don’t know but let’s get inside out of the cold. I’ll check one out”

Kèet will approach the left one silently and try to discern noise as he listens at a window or door.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Keet is stopped by the wrought iron fence. the church still 30-40 feet beyond.
Narrhil's torch illuminates a few headstones protruding from the snowblanket and knows this is not his previous approach.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Narrhil looks for a gate, keeping pace with Kéet to provide him light.

Tillak follows.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Narrhill follows the neck high fence and finds a gate 20 ft to his left.
He will need a turn to dig it out enough to clear movement he thinks.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

"There is away through, or we could climb?" still Narrhil prepares his dig the gate free, as a trained gardener, he was use to digging...

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The gate is rusted and with sharp pointed railheads. The rails are too narrow for men especially with armor and gear. Climbing for most will be difficult like this but not impossible.

Narrhil commences to dig, after giving the torch to one of the others...

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Tillak and Keet watch patiently as the magic user goes to his knees and shovels the snow away with his hands. Eventually the gate is exposed and ready for opening. The snow beyond is much thinner without  the fence to collect it.
2 headstones 5 ft beyond the fence mark the path toward the dark church.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Narrhil steps back allowing the warriors to go before him. He draws his pick, thanking the magical ring for protecting him for the cold.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Somewhere deep inside the treeline you recently emerged from, a great wolf's howl breaks the silence.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

"If they have got our scent again," urges Narrhil, "lets get inside this graveyard and shut the gate! It will give us some protection!"

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The wolf's howl causes the hair on the back of Tillak's neck to prickle as he remembers a moonlit tundra, a boy running across it pursued by wolves. He tightens his grip on his war pick and proceeds into to the graveyard. "The sooner we are within the confines of this gate, the better. Come!"

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The adventurers move through the rusty gate and secure it behind them. Keet (again with the torch) shines its weak light around the enclosure. Many aged stones protrude from the snow.  The 15' wide path leads through the graveyard, and on into the darkness between 2 separate stone buildings flanking it.
