"That sounds like a good idea."

Votin gets comfortable as best as he can and goes to sleep.

Agreeing, Votin takes his torch and returns back through the secret chute and bundling himself into a ball inside his new frayed frock, falls fast asleep.

Narrhil awaited Tillik, and watched how he progressed with fire. He would need some light to watch the stairs. If things went bad, he would rush to the other chamber, using one of his torches he set on the ground beside him to light his way.

[I take this to mean that:
Narrhil takes the lighted torch from Tillak, and then stands guard at the foot of the stairs inside the wall?
And in the event of an interruption during their rest - he will light one of his own torches which he will drop this torch on the floor and flee back to the domed chamber?"
Is this right?

What does Narrhil do just right  now - this turn?]

As I mentioned earlier, Tillak has nothing to burn.
He lit a torch when the Icicle faded and Votin left with his torch, rather than be in the dark.

At current, Votin is gone back to the domed chamber at Narrhil's request.
Waitng  for Tillak's move and Narrhil's move.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

[Well, Narrhil will want go to the back room with with Tillak; going after Votin, this back room seems easier to defended. He will let the two of them sleep, keeping Votin torch active and putting Tillak's torch out. He (Narrhil) will sit and guard entrance for an hour with torch (search room and corpse also), then sit in darkness for another 3 hours beside entrance, listening for danger.

Once 4 hours are done, he will awaken Votin. Basically tell Votin to sit in darkness, but give him Tillak's torch to light if he hears danger approach].

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Tillak is so tired he can't speak or decide anything for himself, so Narrhil leads him to the small secret chute in the base of far corner of the last row of bottle shelves. Narrhil pushes the warlock through the chute then himself crawls though and emerges in the 15 ft diameter domed chamber, which he notices is quite a good deal warmer than the cellar.
the ceiling is quite low and he finds he will need to stay on his knees in here.

Votin sleeps hard beside his lit torch to your left.
In the center of the chamber is the heaped nude corpse of a man. His face frozen- contorted in agony and his skin is dehydrated to his skeleton. There is a thin gold band around one of his clawed fingers.
On the floor next to him is a quill and a spilled inkwell, long dried. Also, 6 empty green bottles identical to what you saw on the shelves in the cellar.

Tillak lies down next to Votin and joins his slumber.

In Narrhil's search of the chamber he finds a 6ft by 3ft depression (about 8 inches deep) in the stone floor on the far opposite of the secret chute opening.

Narrhil extinguishes TIllak's torch as mentioned and sits to guard the entrance with Votin's torch for the next hour or until the torch goes out...

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Narrhil places his blanket* on Tillak and explores the room...

While Narrhil had still got Votin's torch lit, he inspected the domed chamber. He pushes the dead corpse to the far side of room, away from his sleeping comrades, and says a few words of passing, “I know not whom you are, but may the Ashen Worm take your soul, or to whatever god you give homage to!”

He notices the gold band, and he removes it from the dead man's finger to inspect... (he has read magic if any hidden script on inside of ring). He takes the quill and empty inkwell (and stopper?) and places the two items into his pack, carefully. 'Now I just need ink,' he thinks...

He squats and  examines the depression, looking for symbols to read, or any worn region around the area, perhaps a stone slab, if pushed would open the aperture.

If his efforts are futile, he crawls to the opening (secret chute) to the cellar room, and sits guarding from inside the dome chamber (if there is a sconce, he places the torch in it?), his footman picks close by, Tillak's torch beside him, and in the fading light of Votin's torch he examines the ring, one more time. If he cannot learn any more from it, he will place it on one of his fingers.

Narrhil, sits, the hour passes and as the torch fades, he sits in darkness, listening. Holding onto Tillak's torch and his tinderbox, ready to light it. He ponders the ruined church and his predicament.

'What was this place,' he wondered. In the dark, on his arrival he had seen little, a few out-buildings, perhaps dwellings on his arrival, but the fear of the wolves had cause him to focus only on getting into the church.

[OOC: * Not sure of folks' equipment, but if they have blankets, etc., he covers them both.]

Narrhil packs away the quill and inkwell after moving the corpse.

He finds no markings in or near the depressed stone, but it is a curious area, a 6ft by 3ft section off the floor that is 8 inches deeper that the rest.  THere are no sconces on the stone walls so he places the torch on the floor.

It is upon his second examination whilst guarding that he finally notices a small etching inside the band ,almost completely worn away. So far gone that it seems only damage but now paying only full attention it appears a more controlled scratch.

Though try as he might Narrhil just can't get a recognition.
The moment it slips on his finger his body is flooded with warmth - his winter furs causing him to suddenly break sweat -  and all becomes clear.     [Narrhil +1000XP for old Ring of Warmness]

Later in the darkness, he realizes the buildings near the church he THINKS he remembers -- were imagination.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

It must have been the heat returning to his body as he had walked in hypothermia, but now his mind is more precise. 'So, a solitary church in the mountains. Makes sense. I think the Ashen Worm has sent me here to claim this place of worship as his own..!' Presumes Narrhil sincerely.

“Such magic,” whispers the cryomancer as he looks at the ring on his finger. He then looks at this comrades. Were they shivering. The Domed Chamber was warmer than the rest of the church. He also loosen his robes at his chest to let some air in and took off his silver fox fur cap, and rolling it he squeezed it into one of his pocket in his robes.

As he sat pondering, little did Narrhil realise but he was lost, he had thought I had been travelling north, well, he had been, when he first left Dunwich but with no proper light, and flanked by the great mountains that had surrounded him, he had lost sight of the great orb which had lit his way for only a few hours of the day... Now it was gone and he might never see Helios again. He left his fate to the whim of the Great Ashen Worm and awaited his judgement.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Narrhil mind circles and re-circles over his shift to the west mountains and the thick blankets of snow through the thick woods, the press of the wolves, the sanctuary of this lone church...

He loses track of all time in the self imposed darkness and the blanketing silence of the domed chamber, then finally crawls in the dark toward where the snoring comes from. And he nudges against....(Narrhil roll d6]

Votin arises refreshed...no more sluggishness...he assumes the watch and patrols the current area.

"Rest my friend, so we can continue."
