If he can, Votin cautiously peers into the room, looking for trouble before he enters.

The stairwell inside the wall is too narrow for Votin to move past Tillak, but he "feels" like the room is empty....

Tillak moves forward, making room for Votin.

Tillak enters the 10 x 20 ft room. Its stone walls are blackened with soot.
A long charred table centers the room beneath the 2 broken out windows 15ft high on the far wall.
To your right, a large kettle hangs at the end of a long chain disappearing up the fireplace.
To the left a burned out doorway opens into a larger room beyond with wooden benches.
The air is frigid.

We search the room, being on the lookout for any traps or alarms.

Votin scours the room hardly noticing the frigid air/
[OOC: My work schedule is so messed up right now, it's like the movie Groundhog Day]

The kettle is empty.
The table is burned.
The windows are too high.
The charred doorway leads to a large room beyond, there are soaked wooden benches and torn papers everywhere, the roof has collapsed.

And after he definitely takes notice of the frigid air.

How does Malak the Thief feel about this cold/frigid weather?

Malak hears movement in the next room.

Sounds like 2 humans, heavy footed, armored, labored.
Smells like they haven't bathed in months.
2 torches.
Inside the room beyond these broken double doors is 40x40 ft. There are 8 burned pews faced away from you. The room is soaked from a collapsed ceiling, torn wet pages of parchment litter everything. A raised dais on the far side is flanked by a melted golden harp on the left and a charred out doorway on the right, beyond which comes the light and odors of the men.
Glad for his winter fur, flurries begin to fall as the waning sick Helios slides to the horizon behind you.

Votin keeps up his false bravado while the frigid air does chill him to the bone.
"What happened here?"
To no one in particular has he makes his way cautiously around the room.

I get out of the cold and try to warm my hands

Tillak's teeth are chattering too much to respond.

One of the humans speaks to the other from the room beyond the charred out door as Malak spills silently inside the chapel.

Tillak, an Esquimaux and former refugee of the tundra, is used to the cold. He follows Votin.

"Let us scout out the opening across the room to see if there lies any danger and we made need to seek shelter for the night, what say you Tillak?"

"Aye, let's."
