"She not come to here. She have old church. Have bad beast kill beast."
He smacks his furry chest proudly. "Me escape. Me safe."
Offline
He turns attention back to a small wooden bowl at his feet, which he lifts to his lips. Slowly he blows across its contents and holds it out to the young barbarian. "This makes good. Take."
Offline
Votin accepts the bowl with some hesitation...he understands how important it is to follow the customs of other cultures...
Votion drinks the offered beverage hoping it's not for some sort of religious rite.
He's not ready to talk to the spirits just yet.
Offline
Votin nearly gags at the bitter earthy taste but manages to drink it all. Within an instant, a natural calm comes over him. The beast man chuckles as Votin's numbing fingers release the bowl with a clattering on the rocky ground.
"Good. Make more."
He starts tearing strips from roots as Votin's eyelids close.

[No, taking the elixir on faith worth only 150 +10% = 165 XP. Votin grand total is now 1155 XP.]
Votin wakes. It is dark in the cave save the dim glowing embers of the cook fire. A heavy rain falls outside. The beast man is gone. Votin's pack rests beside his battle axe leaned to the wall.
The salve across his neck has hardened to a scablike shell.

Votin rises and checks his surroundings...then he cautiously peers outside.
He shoulders his pack and his battleaxe debating whether or not to explore the cave.
Offline
The cook fire is out and the embers don;t cast enough light to explore the whole of the beast man's cave.
The place seems pretty bare, and Votin is definitely alone.
Rain rages outside.
Offline
Votin removes a torch from his backpack and lights it with the tinderbox, the downpour has decided for him as he looks around the cave.
Offline
Votin digs a torch and the tinder from underneath the poncho out of the backpack.
The torchlight floods the stone cave. Shadows dance on the walls in patterns revealing a man made cut.
Beyond the cook fire near the mouth is a makeshift bed of forest needles. And a small pile of loincloths covers several sheets of stripped hides.
The cave opens slightly wider beyond past the torch's reach.
Offline
Torch in one hand, battleaxe in the other, Votin cautiously advances.
Offline
Votin brushes aside sheets of dead cobwebs and shines the torchlight through the dark space.
The cave widens into a small chamber roughly 20' wide and extending beyond the throw of his torch.
Empty metal pegs are driven into the walls headhigh at 10' intervals.
On his left, the remnants of an old broken wooden box that might have been 6' x 3' x 3' has weathered to the floor.
And above it etched into the cut stone wall are the words EAST VEIN.
Offline
Votin examines the room and gingerly pokes the wooden box with his battleaxe. He recognizes the words but have no idea what they mean having been a nomad most of his life.
Offline
The boards crumble further at the touch of the battle axe. The wood is brittle and dry and useless. Votin has seen this before in very old fallen trees protected from rain and snow.
Offline
Votin moves cautiously towards the dark, holding the torch high to illuminate the are.
Offline
Votin walks deeper into the cave. 10, 20, 30 feet. Up ahead, he can just make out a large stationary object about waist high blocking the way. It looks to be made of rusted metal.
Offline
Votin stops in his tracks and wonders what could it be?
Curiosity gets the better of him and he moves closer.
Offline
It is a second wooden box reinforced with metal scraps, within are two seat panels fore and aft. The box is affixed with 2 sets of metal wheels which sit atop two metal rails running on the ground into the dark ahead. The metal lever is attached to one of the wheels.
There are 3 similar metal levers jutting from a metal box on the right side wall. Metal tubes flow from the top of the box up to the ceiling and disappear into the darkness ahead.
The left lever is pointed to the floor. Etched into the wall above is the word "CHANNEL".
The middle lever is pointed to the ceiling. Etched into the wall above is the word "SWITCH".
The right lever is pointed to the ceiling. Etched into the wall is the word "CLOSE".
Offline
Votin examines the cart for some time before climbing in and sitting down.
He then pulls on the metal lever in the car slowly...
Offline
The wood is old but in far better shape than the first box discovered. Votin eventually climbs inside the box.
[Does he sit in the fore or aft "seat"? Does he put down the torch or the axe to grab the lever?]
