Votin manages to sit up.

Sigrun ignores the deer, knowing they didn’t break the branches and tree limbs. They are running away from something.

“I’m going to investigate,” she states, loping off toward the sound with shield and spear ready.

Sigrun silently climbs the path to the trailhead at the top of the north ridge, and even in the darkness, she makes out the shape of the returning lizard, steadily approaching with the carcasses of beastmen, limbs and entrails falling from its gnashing jaws of death.

OOC: We haven't been resting long, have we? We're gonna have to run, bros.

Kondor is easily on his feet and reads the viking's body language of the impending doom.

1d12- 9!

But I imagine that Gundrabu is sleeping by now anyway.

Both the steep grade and his studded made for a super light and uncomfortable doze from which he jolts at the sudden tension in the group.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Sigrun crouchs and slowly backs away until it is safe to turn and run quietly back to the group. “The great beast is back. We must leave, now!”

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Tillak agrees. "Yes, let us flee. Hunstwoman, you should lead the way.  You are more familiar with this plain than we." I will carry anyone who needs to be carried, which might only be Votin.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

OOC: GM, if this is Sigrun’s hunting area would she know of a safer place? A cave?

Actually, these are not her hunting grounds. This is as far north as she has ever ventured. Since her elders passings she has been fortunate enough to hunt nearer to her village 100 leagues south, but her and her other young kin felled the game over the last few years. These warm months has seen famine, which is why the clan of young finally disbanded and scattered to survive.

Sigrun knows of the big water southwest over the hills. And the gametrails of the large forest south to the sea. She recalls strange caves three nights ago which emitted strange odors. Her camp on the other side of the south ridge has nestled between a boulder and lean of fallen firs.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor is up and ready to move, the barbarian in him always ready for danger. He takes his things, helps those near him, all in the blink of an eye.

"Whatever comes our way, move! If there's no safe place, we'll find one. Quickly, quietly!" Kondor's voice is a low whisper, intended to be heard only by those near to him.

ooc:  Happy holidays, all!

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The stream's valley has you very pinned in. Options seem to be
take on the lizard up the trail over the north ridge(or stand ground and wait.)
go upstream, previously uncharted
go downstream, either in the canoes on the other bank, or by foot as Gundrabu did earlier.
go around the steep south ridge toward viking's camp

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

OCC: Happy holidays to all of you, my fellow travellers of Hyperborea.

ICC: The safest bet is trying to reach Sigurn's camp. The adventurer in Tillak wonders what is upstream. 🤔😅🗡⚔🏹🛡⛏

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor wants to head to the viking's camp immediately, possibly bringing the canoes with them (just in case they're useful).

Did the beastment in clothes have boots?

The canoes are on the far east end of the south beach, the trail to the camp is on the far west end of the beach.

The dead clothed beastmen on the ground nearby Kondor indeed wore boots.
