Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Tillak raises an eyebrow. The chance of the beastmen wanting to kill Kondor in a surreptitious way after begging their assistance is not likely, but he is still hesitant.

"You would not lessen our number for some reason, would you friend beastman, after asking our aid?"

Eight of the canoes now over turned and occupied by beastmen with oars in hand, the half of which launch  into the current. Quickly they disappear out of sight.

The last four canoes remain, each with a singular oarsman. The beast man leader steps into one of them and responds to the warlock as his oarsman launches, "Of course not. We would prefer you not drown in your armors!"

And he is away....

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor says nothing, then gets his own boat. He does not mention the image in his mind of the beast man's head floating through the air on a fountain of red, but keeps to the task at hand.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor loads into his canoe and his oarsman thrusts away. The last two beastmen stand at their canoes, worriedly watching the 2 esquimeauxs.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

In truth, this close to the water, a symbol of Khalk-xu’s grace, Gundrabu was stunned by the blessing flowing like a salt tide into his psyche. Darkness now contained within, like a fish left in a weir, Gundrabu eagerly boards the craft before him.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu moves to the front of the canoe and stares off after the quickly disappearing canoes ahead of him. His oarsman pushes off into the churn and he is away, leaving only the warlock and the last oarsman standing at the river's edge.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Tillak follows the example of his compatriots and boards a canoe. The mystery deepens.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

ooc:  Agreed about the mystery!  Kondor might be suspicious about the beast men, but as a player I'm intrigued.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The lone beast man breathes a sigh of relief as TIllak at last gets inside the canoe, waiting as the warlock carefully balances his war pick across his knees. Then with a strong lunge he pushes off and hops aboard, digging the oar hard into the churning swirl, his sinews straining against the velvet sleeves covering them.

[Tillak roll 3d6 vs WIS.]

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu and Kondor hold on for dear life as each are thrown into darkness. Only the roar of the water and the shouts of the beastmen orient them moving further away from each other, Gundrabu in the lead.

[Still need Tillak 3d6 vs wisdom back getting into his boat...]

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor's natural barbarian hackles go up as his oarsman digs his oar deep, throwing his canoe on a very hard left.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu is no stranger to the water, or to riding canoes in the surf, but this much water on his boots is excessive.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

“My friendly beast man, you are allowing more water into the boat than you are keeping outside. Do you need help with those paddles?”

Gundrabu looks around for a spare paddle. He will take it and use it to help steer, if he has the opportunity.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The oarsman cannot be heard if he answers at all above the rush, so Gundrabu feels around for a free oar. He finds none, but he is convinced he is taking water.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu will start baling the canoe with his shield, if possible.

Kondor's hand had remained on his sword hilt, and his mind had been running through the motion for how to strike down the beastman piloting the boat.

However, he keeps his calm, thinking this must be how the beast men travel along this river.

ooc:  did Kondor get one of those glowing daggers? I remember we went to get them, but I don't remember if that was lost.

oodm: Gundrabu led Kondor back to get one. But the group encountered the beastmen and paused to listen to their plight. The group then followed the beastmen at their request. Through the bottom of the pit where the daggers were - I paused the trip hard there for someone to grab one if wanted -- but no one did.
So Kondor is without a lighted dagger.
Tillak lost his whne he jumped into the river.
Only Gundrabu still has his.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor stays in the boat, waiting until the ride is over.

His expression? Unmoved. He is a Kimmerian of the wilds, born on the battlefield, life lived on the edge.

ooc: Aw yeah.
