Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu will dive to it and attempt to learn more by investigating through touch.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Feeling it 3 ft under the surface:
the object is flat on top,
about a foot thick,
smooth on all sides,
and larger than you can reach in any direction.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu hopes that it is a drain cover and gropes all around on it searching for a pull-ring or some similar contrivance with which to “open” it.

He cannot feel anything from his reach in the muck, I assume he will climb upon  and swim across it?

Edit: He'll feel along the 12' edge, see if he can raise it, then, if accomplishing nothing, attempt the below.

Yep, he’ll take a deep breath, submerge into the muck, then slither along the object, seeking blindly, by touch, for a handle.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The 12 inch edge is smooth and continuous to the left and right. Gundrabu takes a giant puff of air and swims underneath. His arms flail out in front of him in the pitch, feeling nothing.

Roll d6!

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Another 5 ft forward underneath the 12 inch slab...

Gundrabu's hands connect with a vertical cylinder about 10 inches diameter. It feels ribbed or ridged.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Still holding his breath, Gundrabu tries to twist the cylinder, believing it’s a screw. He will try left twist first, then right, then, if it’s stuck, both in rapid succession, trying to loosen it.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor decides to get an idea of the size of the pit they're in by climbing around the wall of the chamber; he hopes there's some other handholds or maybe a way out - after all, the fumes from the foul pit must escape somewhere or they'd have smelled it from the cave.

"Look out down there. I'm going to climb around the walls to the... left. See if there's any other features around here to help us. Maybe a cave opening?"

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

You did smell something

Outside:

The other cave entrance is accessible across the rock face, without descending to the snow where tracks would need to be wiped. Gundrabu manages with the extra pack.

Within 10 ft of the opening, Kondor repulses at the intense musk emanating from within.

and inside chamber:

Kondor steps inside the cave opening. His lamplight shines on another natural hollow in the rock, this space at least 30 foot in diameter. The floors are covered in piles of needles from the the forest trees, though several apparent walks have been cleared toward three rear tunnels. The ceiling is domed but there is no refelective dust mural as in the cave's nearby twin.

The musk scent is extremely strong and repulsive, but its origin is not obvious. Kondor's keen ears pick up the sound of dripping water from the central tunnel.

and left  tunnel entrance:

Kondor's light leads the way to the tunnel opening on the back wall's left side. Cautiously he leads the esquimeaux through the cleared needles. The cave opening is only 5 ft high, so Kondor's stoops, craning his neck to see into the darkness. The foul smell definitely comes from this tunnel. The tunnel descends at least 10 ft over the lit 30 ft beyond the opening.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor starts the climb/ cling. After 20 ft to the left nothing is found.

Which he does, hanging on to the edge of the smooth slab, which is 3 ft under the surface.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor make another successful Climb roll if desire to go a further 20 ft or return to slick edge.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Climb d6: 3!
Wherever he can climb he will keep going, trying to find the edge.

"Gundrabu, I'm going to try circling the area to see if there's an edge, or how big this place is. Maybe there's a way out."

ooc:  So by going 20ft to the left, is he going around a small chamber, or is this a continuous wall?
