My own records show 1,523.5 xp (but I’m certainly not going to argue it!). This is how I kept track on my sheet: XP 50 + 750 + 80 + 105 + 200 + 200. I don’t care to scour the forum, so I’ll use 924, if you want, Ref. Just let me know.

Actually, I have 1524 too, I don't know where 924 came from...

I’m also probably out of Torches. At most, I might have one that is mostly consumed.

HD d8- 3. My HP now is 7/8.

dogs = dead
sled = left at well
lantern mounted = on sled, empty
satchels = on floor, contents intact
caribou/berries = packages intact on stone floor
firewood = 1 bundle burned in fire , 2 bundles on stone floor

torches = 1 down well. 1 spent to well and back, 1 unused in backpack.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

fireinthedust, here’s the Spell Omen:

Omen
Level: clr 1; Range: touch; Duration: 1 turn
The sorcerer reveals to himself or another recipient an omen regarding the near future. The next time the recipient makes an attack roll or a saving throw, three rolls are made and the best result selected. This can be done but once, and if the omen is not utilized before the spell’s duration has passed, the dweomer is lost.

Since Gundrabu is almost full of hp now, he suggests that he prepares Omen and Bless Water, giving the sanctuary another try. If he can get some Holy Water, he will have a single flask of it for the month (the Spell can be used only 1/month 😁).

Bless Oil or Water
Level: clr 1; Range: touch; Duration: permanent
This 6-turn (1-hour) ritual is performed exclusively by clerics or priests of Good alignment. A holy blessing is placed on an eight-ounce vessel of vegetable oil or fresh water, thus creating a dose of holy oil / water. Sorcerers of CA 1–4 can cast this spell but once per month; those of CA 5–8 can cast this spell twice per month; and those of CA 9–12 can cast this spell thrice per month. Bless oil or water must be cast on hallowed ground, or that which has been sanctified by a ceremony of consecration spell (q.v.). A glass vessel of holy oil / water thrown as a missile at an undead target delivers 1d8 hp damage for 2 rounds if a hit is scored (see VOL III, COMBAT ACTIONS, holy oil / water).

Omen can be cast in combat when we get there, right?
Kondor is just interested in going downstairs efficiently. He's interested in the holy water if it helps, but otherwise doesn't understand the value. In this he trusts your expertise, as it's all mystical stuff that you sorcerer types would know about.  You want it? We get it.
It's just a splash acid vs Undead, right? Or does it do something like weaken all undead in range? I may just be remembering 2e D&D holy water, but... (shrugs)

From now on we stay adjacent, and move as a unit!

Ooc: “It's just a splash acid vs Undead, right? Or does it do something like weaken all undead in range? I may just be remembering 2e D&D holy water, but... (shrugs)”

Ooc: Yeah, in this game it appears fundamentally offensive. In my homebrew games, Holy Water has a range of applications.

Gundrabu prepares Cure Light Wounds and Omen. Then he proposes they see to that door. He might start by poking at the electrical field with a wooden stick or twig.

To be clear, Ref, I DO do this. Gundrabu finds a narrow stick about the length of his forearm and gingerly places its farther most end to the “electric” field.

Gundrabu searches in vain for a twig. Objects he thinks he could use: one of the burned hymnals, a rolled up page from the hymnals, a carving from a firewood log, his unused torch

Kondor eats rations while Gundrabu figures out the twig replacement. He secretly regrets not bringing the dogs for meat, but concedes the undead likely tainted them with foul sorcery, making them inedible.

Gundrabu uses a rolled-up page from a burned hymnal.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

“Unholy sorcery!”

Gundrabu stands back apace, holds his symbol before his body, and cries, “Melt away, unholy flame, before the Coils of Khalk-xu!”

[Is this an attempt at Turning?]

If nothing comes of this, he turns to Kondor. “I may have made another error, my barbarian friend. I believe this is a work of evil. Perhaps, if I had a bit of the Kraken’s Water about me, I’d be able to nullify it. But I did not prepare that rite for this day.”

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The electric flame fizzes and sparks before the great power of the dimensional dweller , glowing even brighter and protruding from the door's crack as if straining to strike the wooden rattle!

Gundrabu isn’t touching that with anything but Holy Water. Hunker down for another day, then try the sanctuary again?

The barbarian nods. Fine by Kondor.  "We should gather our things and head to the kitchen campsite by the temple hall. It will allow us to bottleneck attackers, watch the doorway, and have a fire without these winds. Plus we've got the strength today for battle, we should use it!"

ooc: Kondor gathers their things, then heads out with Gundrabu to the front of the scorched sanctuary. This time they will go around the right, not the left, of the ruins. The intent is to switch things up so the beast men can't as easily predict their next move.

“Wait! Wait!” cries Gundrabu. “If it’s Holy Water you want in the sanctuary, we can’t go today. I didn’t prepare the necessary Spell. But if there is some further exploration you would like to do, I’m for it. Do you think we could get that gold out of the well yonder? We can bring rope. One of us can stand watch while the other climbs in.”

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu has a sack. If there is an old bucket in the well—even a cracked one, which would be best—someone planting their feet, standing, above the waterline, should be able to “scoop” the gold and pour it (for the water to drain, sifting out) into the large sack I have. Gundrabu thinks the strong barbarian should do this. Gundrabu will keep watch at the well opening. Easy as can be! Nothing can go wrong!
