Long enough to be sure one way or the other

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

You do not find any traps on the door.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Any key holes?
Is it locked, stuck. etc?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

There are no keyholes to work on any locks.
There are two large bands for the hinges which are not visible and the round metal pull.

A metal pell? Like a ring that we pull instead of a door knob?

And we pulled and it didn’t open.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Yes, but it's obvious to both of you that the door opens to the inside.
You have pushed and pulled but it never gave an inch, didn't even rattle.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Sounds like the door thinks it’s BETTER THAN US so let’s get it!!!!!!!!

Or m There’s another way, like up the bell tower.

Emral carefully looks at the tower, and walks up a step at a time making sure the thing doesn’t collapse under his weight.

“Maybe we can get a good look at the area from up top, and even whether there is a way into the room from the roof.”

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

CAn we try opening this together?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

While Malak examines the door, Emral ascends the belfry.

The rickety wooden stairs groan under his weight, but the steps hold firm. He climbs slowly testing each step until he reaches the top landing. Here over the roofline of the church the wooden belly is fire damaged, the wooden frame around you charred as the interior. The huge oxidized copper bell is out of reach overhead, its ringing ropes obviously burned away.

When Emral calls out for assistance, Emral sees that the roof of the space they are attempting to enter has a large hole in it near the far end and there are a dozen irregular shapes lumped and covered with the dusting of snow on what remains of the roof.

"Malak, it looks like the roof of the space has a large hole in it near the far end and there are a dozen irregular shapes lumped and covered with the dusting of snow on what remains of the roof."  Emral calls down.

Does it look like we could go safely from the bell tower to the roof of the space?

And looking all around, can Emral see anything on the rest of the roofs or temple area?  Can he see into the main chamber, whether the bodies have moved or anything?  Is there anything on the roof above our fireplace?

Anything he can see in the countryside around us?  Other areas to explore?  Or just this one building?

A jump onto the roof looks treacherous.
Only a few brittle beams remain of the burnt out roof of the chapel.
The roof of the kitchen at this distance is too dark for details.
The countryside is shrouded in darkness.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

What do the irregular shapes look like?  Could they be... the bodies of those seeking refuge from the flames?  Skeletons waiting to attack us? Gargoyles?   ...Bags of magical items?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Hard to make out in that dim lantern light...might be treasure bags.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Emral heads down to help Malak open the door. He starts trying to use his shoulder and strength.

“Maybe the shovel and we can pry the door open?”

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Assuming they work together to shoulder the door open...
Smash! Door resists.
And from the pain in Malak's leather only covered shoulder, it must be sealed from within.
