Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Does Emral know what that red glow could be?  Are we talking a faerie fire glow or a flickering red light like from a magical gem or something?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The grasses keep blocking Emral's view and the lantern light plays tricks with shadows and the night is the darkest yet of Nightfall...but the red glow looks like it hums within a fist-sized piece of glass, nearly covered with snow and beyond your reach.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

How far from the fence is the glow?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Just out of reach of your longest piece of equipment.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Emral heads forward, but is happy to turn back if Malak is too cold and we need to turn back so he doesn't die.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Emral thinks Malak is okay...for now...and lurches forward, around the fence corner and presses hard toward the gate at G1/2.
The wind gains strength with each earned step, if he didn't know better, he would think sorcery was afoot.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Maybe a good time to use the protection scroll?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Malik did you follow Emral? Or did you stay back to fool with the red glow?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

I am letting Emril take the lead. I follow.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

“I suspect sorcery in this blizzard, unless Boreas has some claim upon your soul he’s come to collect. We’ll get through the gate, run to the red glow, and if it’s not killed us, we run to the bell tower you mentioned. Given the skeletons we’ve found so far, I expect a welcome from them here. I’m hoping to save the protection scroll for later, maybe even sell it when we’re safe and gone from here. But we’re stuck here until we can get you a ring like this one, or some other transportation out of this ruin- or we solve the curse itself and the blizzard magic trapping us vanishes!”

He gets them to the gate, figures out a path to the gem and the tower, and any probable ambush spots. When ready:

“On my mark we run. Ready? Mark!”

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Malak nods as the warlock speaks. Emral tries to make sense of the courtyard beyond, but even if he could peer into the thick black void to see the bell tower, the whipping grasses and driving snow would render that task impossible.
He gauges the angle through the pendular slicing grasses toward where the red glow was - a harsh diagonal over uncharted land...

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Emral leads the way when Malak is following, and when they get near the red spot he points to it so Malak can grab it (Emral has the lantern and his sword).  He's looking for danger the entire time, from below the snow or around each tombstone.

He's not going unless Malak is with him.

What are the tombstones like?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

You don't see a tombstone near you.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Emral and Malak are at the gate, going through the gate.  No tombstones?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Correct. There are no tombstones at the gate or near the gate.

There are, however, violent winds shrieking across the drums within your ears,
and abusive snow pelting you from all directions...

Emral is fine to move forward, but checks on Malak to see if he’s okay. The blizzard may be harmful, causing damage. If the thief can’t go safely, they can go back inside and try another approach (ie: through the kitchen window)

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Moving into the cemetery, what can they see?

2/08/2019 4:56 pm  #1338

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

They enter the cemetery in the direction of where the red glow is remembered.

The struggling lantern light plays tricks on Emral's eyes in this darkness but there seems to be a huddled mass behind the whipping grasses three feet in front of him.

Impossible, Emral is holding a sword and a lantern in this savage squall.
