How do secondary skills work?
He’s into glyphs and sigils, sword play, and potions and brewing were more something he tried the one time... but information is his first love, not the act of drinking. He’s fire, not water, so maybe it’s more about creating via fire: alchemy, the fire as purification of matter, and arts related to that?
Secondary skills are " Professional or trade skills typically developed from childhood to adolescence. They may have little overlap with the character’s class, oft attributed to environment, upbringing, socio-œconomic status, and culture; e.g., the son of a potter likely is learned in the same craft, unless his father sent him to apprentice with his uncle, the saddler. So, a cleric may once have been a brewer of fine spirits, a thief may have been a baker, a fighter may have served as a butcher’s apprentice, and a magician may have experience as a cobbler.
so brewer/vintner is fine for Emral's background, before he was seduced by the flame...

Secondary Skills are described on p.111 of the 2e book.
I am a bowyer/fletcher.
Makes sense for Malak
Ok, I've noted on my copy of Malak's character sheet.
FYI: This is a 1e game. Secondary skills are on pg. 78 of Players Manual.

The half skeletons win the initiative.
A second skeleton manages to squeeze in next to the first to also strike as Emral flees back a row.
Skeleton #1 strikes with a 16! [Emral subtract 2 HP]
Skeleton #2 strikes with a 16 too! [Emral subtract 1 HP]
Emral curses the wounds as he ducks between the racks of other row to ponder his next move.
Malak moves in and his dagger cuts several of the first foe's ribs away, which crash to the glass littered floor!
[end of round 2]
[you know the drill: state intention/roll int/etc/etc]

Wait, if you win I get him as my GM? (scowls) Just the jackpot, of course. If you win a freeplay and ditch...
Secondary skills: Nah, he's the son of nobles who neglected him, leaving him to his own devices and expecting him to fail. So he could have learned about brewing one summer, while studying alchemy, but that wouldn't have been his "trade". More like he "borrowed" a brewer's secret formulae and decrypted the instructions, then gave it a try with ingredients. He's been a squire, he's hung out with mummers, he's spent time with artists, swordsmen, bards, blacksmiths, stonemasons, a thieves guild for children, and fencing and fighting guilds, all while a youth. Then he came home, a head taller with a swordsman's physique, told off his disrespectful aristocratic relatives, and left his name behind for a life on the road as a sellsword. Then, y'know, magic - and he's a genius, it turns out, which is how he ended up here.
So... I'm not sure what his secondary skills would be. Not brewing, but he is familiar.

sounds like he's dabbled in most everything but for the sake of the game, do you want to make a random roll on the table?

It will take a swift dagger or a cunning mind to win against these 6 half-skeletons...let's see what Emral decides to do behind the rack there....

"Emril, Protection Scroll?"

Ooc: squire? Or alchemist? Or sage/scribe? With a talent for art and architecture?

"Protection scroll? Not when you can FLAMING SPHERE!!! Stand back!"
he casts flaming sphere between the adventurers and the skeletons. Things in a wine cellar are likely not flammable oils, and six foes at once are already... too much to swallow!

When I see him casting a spell I duck back into the stairwell to take cover.
