ooc:  Huzzah!

IC:   Emral shines the light down into the hole.  How deep is the tunnel? Is there a reflection on the surface of a pool of water? 
Is the water made of wood or something more permanent?  And does it look like it can hold his weight or that of their gear?

"We may need to leave the furs if it's wet down there. Go down, explore, return here and recover?"

Lamp light illuminates a small room below around 10x10 ft. There are several wooden racks covered in metal reflecting back at you. The ladder descends down to water which covers the floor.

2 giant rats swim in the water toward the ladder.

The dagger is so true it disappears inside the rat and the poor beast sinks below the water's surface!

Emral had his longsword at the ready while looking down the hole, and after Malak's inspired throw he was ready to skewer his own giant rat.

init: 1d6: 4
Attack: 1d20+2: 8  (dang)
Damage:  1d8+2: 8

ooc:  I'm... not sure that 8 hits, because usually it doesn't... but hey, maybe the rat is bad at climbing?

Ha! laughs the rat.
He knows that maybe one day soon that pitiful swing might make contact...but for now he is safe to LEAP!

...onto MALAK! Luckily the thief is light on his feet and as the rat explodes out of the hole, a quick pivot gives the rank beast the slip.

It scurries around in the empty pool with you.

end of round 1.

intentions/int/att/dam rolls for round 2...

"Agh, rats!"  Emral grimaces, noting the oddly aggressive behaviour of the rodent. "Too big and it thinks it's a tiger, eh? Not yet, muroid!!!"

He watches it and his partner, planning where to stab, feint, and riposte to end this scurrying plague-carrier so they can move forward.

att: 20!  (plus two for 22; should I roll to confirm a crit in this system? d6?)
dmg: 2+2
att: 8+2=10
dmg: 4+2=6

crit?: 4?

crit?: 4?

a crit is a crit. you roll a d6 to determine damage bonus. chart is on pg. 221 of 1E players manual. not sure what page in the 2E book.  You know Malak?  I'll use that 4 you rolled - gives you x2 damage - so it will be 2+2=4 x2 = 8 If the rat doesn't bite you to death since he rolled a 6 and won initiative!

The rat senses the fire behind the Warlock's eyes and determines to extinguish it!

16! His sharpened teeth pierce armor and flesh! 

Lose 1 HP!

And

Save vs. Death(poison).... I don't see you having any modifiers....
