HA! Well now the 3 is worth way more.
you guys have the initiative, so we'll wait and see what Malak does -- before these Wolves kill you alive!

Murder us to death? That sure sounds unswell!
Malak doing that to Olo was a bit odd, but maybe it was a good start point for his redemption arc? I’m still not convinced he would have shot the corpse, but I admit that GMs who go hyper literal gave me a nostalgic smile. Heh.

can we look for additional players? Just so we can get through the area if one of us dies, or so we can get past more than one area at a time.

I fire!
Init 6 plus dex modifier
Att #1 11 +1 = 12 dam 6 + 1 = 7
Att #2 18 +2 = 19 dam 6 + 1 = 7

[no int modifiers in this game]
Malak fires without care again. Luckily this round his arrows go in the general direction of the wolf on the right. His first arrow misses, strafing the hard earth behind, but the 2nd arrow pieces its hide.
[End of round 1.]

* Which of the wolves did I hit with my sword? The one on the right or the left?
Emral takes to the flow of battle once more, spinning and threatening with his blade before the overhead flow becomes two flashing cuts with his sword, slash slash. His entire pattern is like a serpent, hypnotizing with its coils before striking with its fangs in the beat between moments.
Initiative: 1
Attack 1: 17+2! (19)
Damage 1: (5+2) 7
Attack 2: 18+2! (20)
Damage 2: (8+2) 10
((Well *that* worked out well. I'm over-describing all my rolls from now on!!!))

[In #377 you declared you "charged in to the left" so it was the left side Wolf who stood and conversed with you that you hacked. Malak choose again to "fire". Luckily these 2 arrows (#14 & #13) went generally in a favorable direction. one hit one missed the wolf on the right.]
[The wolves have rolled a 6, so unless Malak can roll a tie...]

Your 6 ties the wolves, their dex is 9. Malak 's is 16. so you guys win initiative.
how are you getting +3 missile adjustment?
Also Emral has charged in, so you are firing into melee. It's S range so only -2 to thread the needle.

DX 18 = +3 Missle Weapons

Sadly, Malak doesn't have an 18 DEX.
I think you have forgotten that when he froze to death in the forest, Malak suffered a reduction of 2 points to each attribute, before he was resurrected by the great Boreas.
Please revisit entries #108, 109, 110.
Since that awful time Malak's stats have been:
ST 13 DX 16 CN 12 IN 11 WS 10 CH 9
0/+1 +1/+1 +0/+0
AC 6 Leather
HP 9
Clothes, 2 Pouches, 2 Daggers, Short Bow & Quiver, 18 uncirculated platinum coins.
You have 13 arrows left.
You have 1710 XP.

So,
Init 6
One attack this round at the same wolf
Attack
14 +1 (missile adj) - 2 firing into melee = 13
Damage = 2

Malak. Runs off to head for the city

Fair enough.

Emral raises his blade for his serpentine attack, and sees in the corner of his eye Malak slip away behind the church wall.
The wolves in front of him raise on their haunches anew!

Malak realizes that the Warlock is not with him!
He turns around, heads back to the battle to see what is happening.

Emral had charged left so they would be drawn to me, but also so they would be open to Malak’s arrows. Like he’d be firing from the side when they come at me. They might have closed in by now, but that was the intent.
Also we’re days away from the village, in winter rain, so we should deal with the wolves before we leave our backs open to them.
How wounded are the wolves looking now?
Emral is already locked into the battle so he follows up with another strike; then he takes a fencers step back, keeping them from doubling up and perhaps giving Malak another opening for his arrows!
A: 5 total 😿
D: 6 total?
Initiative for next round: 1?

You run back and see the Warlock wicked with rage, swinging his blade wildly, and ending the life-force of one of the ferocious white furred beasts.
The remaining wolf stands 6 ft on haunch, an arrow piercing its mighty chest. At the death of its brother, it howls at the Warlock, "Now you die, man of magic and the blade!"
Then on cue releases a horrible howl that discharges a blast of frigid air directly onto the unsuspecting Warlock!
[Emral roll d20.]
