Malak shimmies up the wall with no problem and grabs the sill, pulling himself up to peek out.
He can't get a great look down to the ground below, as he is holding his bodyweight, but he can see that the dying sun's rays are lightening the sky.
20 ft across the way there is another section of the church building.
In front on the left is a wooden belfry which is unburned, with stairs leading up to a huge metal bell.
The screaming suddenly ceases.
Emral ponders. “Okay so something killed something else, but we’re rested. So let’s check out the bell tower.”

Let's go

We go! Emral puts away his things, draws his sword , and moves to the front room to go to the tower. He looks for Olo’s body on the way, noting if it has moved from its spot. He makes another note to bring it home for a proper burial when they have done away with the threat that took his life.

Okay, the lantern is still on. Helios is rising now, you've got about 5 and a half hours of its sick red light. The table is ashes. The cooking pot hangs in the fireplace. The charred wooden door is closed.
You hear the sound of footsteps crunching in the sleet outside the high windows.
You move to the chapel. The skeleton dust remains. Olo's pool of blackened blood is frozen solid. Everything is in place. The melted harp across the pulpit in the far corner of the room. Red light pours in the front doors.
Outside, Olo's frozen mass remains. his backpack is opened, several of its contents still spilled out on the ground...

I look for the lucky rabbits foot he gave me before

Olo's things:
his handwritten prayer book
his wineskin, half empty
the map of the old roads, damaged
a small braided bit of yarn tied around the nub of a shorn foot of a rabbit

I move Olo to the side, so he is not trampled on or anything. If he’s got a cloak, I lay it over him.
Then I listen for the footsteps outside, and I look for the source and also for prints on the ground.

Olo's thick wool frock is badly burned but Emral manages to cover the body with it after the body is moved aside.
You can't hear the footsteps. You heard those coming from outside the high windows back in the room where you spent the night.
The only footprints you see here are your own.

Lets go investigate where the sounds came from

"We'll return for you, Olo, if we can. Until then, stay strong on your journey beyond this life: you were brave in the face of this world, and died in combat."
Emral follows along with Malak, and heads over to where the windows are, and keeps an eye out for possible tracks in the snow (mud, etc.)
