Yay! First post!
I read that the 2nd edition of AS&SH came with a map folded up and tucked behind the front cover, and I assumed that this was the case for any new book one bought—there would be a folded map inside the cover.
I also assumed all the maps made for the second edition were folded up to go into those books, but... there were maps sold separately, and these came rolled up?
Where the two maps the same size? Are they even the same map?
Were those rolled maps something "extra" referees preferred and bought often? Has Hyperboria changed to the point that those maps are no longer viable for 3E? If not, why are they no longer being sold?
Thanks, and have an outstanding day!

I think the rolled maps (both paper and canvas) are sold out, but planned for reprinting at some point. The Discord server is probably the best place to ask. The only folded map I have is in my 1e boxed set, and it is black & white, not color, like the latest maps. I also have the 2e book, but don't recall if a map came with it.

Alas....
From the publisher's store page:
"AS&SH™ Second Edition comes bundled with a massive, 32 × 40-inch, full-colour map of HYPERBOREA."
That is one of a handful of scraps I've pulled from searches. I have seen photographs of a 2E map opened atop the table but with visible creases, as it had clearly been made to fold back up into a small rectangle. I've also seen images of another map that is not creased, not folded, but comes rolled up when purchased.
I've found maybe a single anecdotal mention of the folded map coming tucked inside the cover of the 2E book, probably from a review written when 2E was new.
Since my first post, I stumbled across the store page for the deluxe rolled map. I am betting the map that came with the 2E book was printed on lightweight paper that would fold up without issue.
I rather imagine the lack of information around these products floating about cyberspace comes down to market saturation.
Why does any of this nonsense matter enough to warrant my new account and thread? I was turned on to the game by way of an effusive captcorajus YouTube review. I picked up both the first edition box set and second edition book via eBay. The 1E box set was mint and came with everything, including a map. The 2E book didn't have a map, and had to purchase that map separately—but I had to purchase one of those "deluxe" rolled maps. I was left wondering what happened to the folded map I had read came with those books, and that lead me here.
I suppose the only thing left to do at this point is to play and enjoy the game!

Well, if that's the only thing, you are in for a treat!

I checked my 2e hc, and it definitely includes the tucked-in map.
I bought mine via the 2e KS at which seems to be your quote source above.
Other than the cloth/canvas maps, I don’t recall the color ASSH maps being available separately from the rulebooks, and we sold them for many years in our Black Blade booths at GaryCon and North Texas RPGCon.
Allan.
edit: looking at the KS add-ons, the maps were available separately from the KS:
+$15 ADD AN EXTRA MAP (FOLDED). An extra 32 × 40-inch, folded map of HYPERBOREA.
+$20 ADD AN EXTRA MAP (UNFOLDED). An extra 32 × 40-inch map of HYPERBOREA, unfolded. This map will be rolled up and placed in a mailing tube or triangular container.
but I don’t believe we ever had these in our booth, so Jeff likely sold any extras directly until they were gone.
Aside: it would have been cool to be able to buy the unlabeled original map art too, had that been offered!
Allan.

Thank for the assistance, those of you who were kind enough to chime in. Yes that 2E book should have come with a folded map inserted.
It just so happens that I recently stumbled into a decent stash of those 2E folded maps. I thought they were gone, because the 2E books were gone, but then I remembered that when we had the maps printed, half of them arrived damaged, half the parcels smashed up. When I reported it to the printer, they did the entire print run over, so I ended up with extra maps. I may put them in our online store!
Cheers,
Jeff T.

Alright, now I need to track down my 2e map...I have my canvas map hanging up, so rarely consult anything else in hardcopy.
