Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Tillak arrives at the bottom without incident.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Tillak steadies himself and looks around.

"Gundrabu," Tillak says to his fellow Esquimaux, "what do you make of this place? Is there a way out of this pit? I am not as schooled in the ways of magic as a magician is, so I do not know the nature of the enchantment that has been cast on us. Maybe it's of a divine nature?"

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu, you cannot be sure you trust this Esquimeaux, for though this warrior looks rough enough around his edges, you DO sense a small glint of the arcane behind his eyes....

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

[You’re always fomenting inner-party conflict, aren’t you! 😛]

As soon as Tillak arrives, Gundrabu makes a circuit of the base, pausing near every opening, peering into the gloom, sniffing the air, studying the floor. He is looking for details and irregularities.

“Well, cousin, what thinkst thee?”

[Who ? Lil' ole' Me???? ]
[He's the one with Magik up his sleeve....] ;)

Each opening is dark, stagnant, silent.
The tunnels were carved out in the old ways, the bedrock etched with tool marks by hands.

[Right? I thought we were cool now, lol!]

Tillak squats down to examine the markings. He's careful to look for runes or markings or an arcane nature.

[Does Tillak see anything that sparks a past memory; something he's seen in his studies?]

Tillak quickly determines that the gouge marks pocking the walls near the tunnel openings he can examine are made by hard chisels.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Tillak straightens and turns to his companions.

[I assume that Knodor has followed us down.]

These marking were made by hands that held tools; hammers and chisels. We are not the first humans to have been down here. I wonder if they were the ones who cursed this place, or if they were themselves, cursed?"

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor heads down as Tillak does so, and moves along with the others.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu says, “Let us experiment.”

Gundrabu tries to climb back up eight feet and touch one of the glowing daggers.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

"Four glowing daggers, four doorways. Below an accursed hole in a mountain, covered in wax, with what looked like a sacrificial victim."  Kondor offers his help lifting the cleric up to the daggers. "Well, we've lost years to this place. Might as well take souvenirs!"

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Tillak wipes his mouth with the back of his hand.

"Let us carry on with this business. Perhaps we will find a cure for our strange ailment behind one of these doors."

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu can simply reach up to touch one of the daggers.
[Rolling a random one]
The dagger falls out of the wall and clatters to the stone floor at Gundrabu's feet when touched.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Does it continue to glow and exude light by which to see?

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Holding it aloft as a light source, Gundrabu proceeds through the opening directly beneath where the dagger had been.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The light shines off the stone walls of the tunnel almost 20 feet ahead, but there is no variation in stone, odor, temperature, or direction as Gundrabu moves forward.  His frayed ended leather boots slapping against the floor echo down into the length of darkness before him...

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Tillak reaches up and draws a dagger from it's place in the wall.

[another random roll]

Tillak's fist clenches around the formed hilt.
Its nearly a perfect fit.
Its light is pure.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Despite his player's curiosity, Kondor's patience for sorcery is too low for him to touch a dagger. He follows the others, hand on his sword and ready to fight... something.

"Careful we don't fall prey to yet more sorcery. The sorcerer behind this theft of years will taste my steel!"
