Wait, so it's just a doorway? I thought there was a dark corridor beyond.

Gundrabu saw the slightest glimpse of an undefined space before all the lights blew out.

Eek!  We better hurry this up, or you're going to need to raise dead on Kondor!

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu rushes headlong into a round chamber, much like the one he escapes. His torchlight floods the space but unable to illuminate the ceiling and  falling off about 30 feet at another raised fount.

This one's lip is encircled with nubs of dozens of pole thick extinguished candles, wax runs in all directions.

Gundrabu sloshes into it, the thick wave of wax congealing around his ankles and holding him steadfast!

Need Kondor's round 2 intentions, rolls, etc.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor backs up into the doorway, moving as fast as possible WITHOUT turning his back on the beetles. He wants to draw them after him so he can bottleneck them, as per his original plan.

Init: 2!

Okay, but since combat is already started, Kondor will have to make a Fighting Withdrawal. and not just a backpedalling Lure.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Okay, cool. So... that! A fighting withdrawal!  Huzzah!  He is slashing and parrying, anticipating the chance to repay the beetles for their insolent attack.
He's going to move while fully defending, so he can get to the corridor and out of range of their melee attacks as fast as possible.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Ok. Kondor has a MV of 30ft so a fighting withdrawal (with attacks) is 1/2 rate. 15 ft. which will move him into the next chamber. Enemies may pursue (if alive).

Beetles roll a 2 INT! so simulanteous actions.

Beetle on the left bites shield (1!)
Beetle head on pinces the sword (5!)

[Kondor roll d20 for withdrawing slash attack, & d10 damage if needed]
[Kondor roll d100 STR feat]
[Kondor roll d100 DEX feat]

[You've got the +s switched.
I 've got Kondor with 17 STR. so that's +1 to hit, +2 damage
Weapon mastery of bastard sword is +1 to hit, +1 damage
= +2 to hit, +3 damage.]

Kondor swings at the onslaughting beetles but both duck and weave out of the way just in time.
and
Kondor backs into the chamber behind him as he swings...his steps heavy as the thick quick cooling wave of wax solidifies around his feet!

The beetles sense victory ahead....

end of round 2. state intentions, INT rolls etc as needed.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Initiative- d6- 2!

Torch still in hand, Gundrabu stoops, holding the burning end lengthwise from the hand that grips the haft but also close to the wax hardening around his mukluks. As he tries to warm the wax until it releases him, he experimentally tries to raise his feet one at a time.

Gundrabu hears the sound of battle behind him as round 3 begins. He softens the wax and struggles to pull one foot free, with everything he's got until at last it pops free with the boot on it! He looks back at Kondor and 2 giant beetles entering the room...the other foot's going to take a while!

OMG I thought it was +3 this whole time!!!  +2 from the Str, +1 from the bastard sword. But it's +1 Str, +1 sword. Yikes!  The... AC table is what threw me, I'm so used to d20 modifiers.

Kondor swings at the onslaughting beetles but both duck and weave out of the way just in time.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

His feet frozen in place Kondor takes another hefty swing and his blade slays another beetle! [Kondor +20 XP]
But the last one sees his prey pinned as a fly in the soup and lashes out with deadly pincers ! 3! A successful barbarian block.

End of round.
State further intentions, rolls etc etc for next round.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Lightly resting the freed foot above the cooling wax, Gundrabu now works on warming the wax around the other foot. When he senses it is ready, Gundrabu will “quickstep” beyond the marge of the wax pool (if there indeed is anywhere to go; if not, he will rush for the lip of the fount and hoist himself up).

D6- 5!

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor hacks at the next beetle, timing his strike as the unthinking hunger of the beetle pulls it into range of his blade.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

"Tillak, Esquimaux icelord, has picked up a trail of footprints, leading him to high caves in the hillside. The winds howl mercilessly and the black of night encircles him. Groping in the dark, he comes across a cave entrance on a hillside. He enters the cave and finds that it leads to a tunnel that goes deeper into the hill side. As he moves along, cautiously, hears the clang of steel on steel. Tillak draws his war pick and proceeds forward."

If Tillak comes across combat, and the combatants are human against monsters, then he will side with the humans amd attack the monsters. I assume that I will take my turn at the same time as the other characters.

Tillak follows the crude steps leading down the rough tunnel toward the sounds of fighting ahead. The hewn steps end at a large metal gear attached to a cylindrical screw running up to the ceiling and down some 9 feet to (and through) a large flat slab. What looks like a single overturned wooden canoe is strapped down with ropes on it.

The slab seems to be up 9 feet higher than the floor of a large circular chamber.

The light of your hooded lantern cannot illuminate its far side.

Wild grunting and the clashing of a sword against hard shell echo through around the chamber but seem to be coming from underneath the slab!

D6- 5!

Gundrabu anxiously holds the flame near the solid wax all the while eyeing Kondor himself now stuck in the wax and fighting desperately with the giant beetle in the lowered flickering torchlight just inside the doorway!
