Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

“By the Kraken, I should have packed some links of dried venison, at the very least. Still, I have this spoon of never ending gruel but... no bowl or kettle. Perhaps, if Tetranna is true, she will have some manner of receptacle.”

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu searches through Kondor's pack:

bandages
sm sack
tinderbox
hooded lantern
50 rope
grappling hook
pry bar

wineskin

Then through his own:

bandages, , sack (l), spikes (1 x4), tinderbox (1), torch (2 x2), waterskin,  holy symbol (wooden), spoon of never ending gruel,

and a small gold ring in his pocket.

Finally he revisits Igrest's:
3 torches bundled (vertically packed)
1 Charcoal stick (loose)
5 rolls of parchment (vertically packed)

Cure Deafness, Neutralize Poison, Cure Critical Wounds, Blade Barrier, empty.
1 hourglass (laterally packed)

1 wrapped leather pouch (makes metal clicking noises within)
1 piece of  chalk (unused)
4 bandages (unused)
1 vial of thick black liquid (full)
1 quill (clean)
50' of silk rope (coiled)
1 waterskin (empty)
1 charcoal stick (heavily used nub)
1 red gem (fist-sized)

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Gundrabu expects Kondor’s iron ration survived the water.

“Hey, Kondor! You want to share these victuals?”

Huh, Gundrabu thinks, I don’t remember this ring at all. Oh, wait! Does it help me endure cold?

He places it on a little finger.

A flood of warmth filled his coursing blood.

Climbing the screw is easy for the barbarian.

Up he goes. Sword is sheathed but he's ready to leap to the ledge or drop back down, if there's a threat.

Kondor's head rises above the edge. He can just make out a lump of winter furs on the ground at the foot of a huge crank. If only he had more light up here...

The edge of the dropoff is about 5 ft away from the cylinder screw.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

"Gundrabu, shine your light up here, quick!" Kondor hustles up and then leaps off the bolt with a surge of adrenaline, his sword drawn. He hopes that Gundrabu will shine the lantern beam up this way, so that even a dim light will reflect off the ceiling.

"Tetranna!" the barbarian hisses at her, aware some enemy could be hiding in the shadows.

Just to clarify: Is Kondor jumping over with or without the light? It reads like he is not waiting and I just need to be sure what's happening.

Not waiting. He is concerned for Tetranna, and doesn't have time to wait. Plus Gundrabu is a standup kind of guy, so I'm sure it'll work out.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

Kondor easily leaps across to the edge where the lump of winter furs lay - but lands in something wet and slippery.

[please roll a % DEX FEAT to stick the landing!]

d100:  37!
I should mention that I rolled a literal d100 for this one. It's essentially round, and a shoebox or other shape to hold it is recommended.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The best kind!

Kondor slides forward in the slippery substance as he lands and crashes into the dark lump of heavy furs on the ground. They are covering something solid.

It is pitch black.

Gundrabu belatedly shines the light aloft.

Holding the light overhead illuminates very little for the barbarian.

Kondor can hear the strike of flint upon steel before the blinding fire erupts!  Quickly standing over him are 6 beast men with thick clubs raised.
The one directly over him barks out in a gutteral learned Common tongue not native to his lips, "Warned you Barbarian that we  meet again.  We do this easy way or hard way..."

Kondor chances to see if Tetranna is alive - breathing? For if she has died, Kondors fury would be unleashed upon these beast men.

Re: The Scorched Sanctuary

The lump of winter furs beside you doesn't seem to be moving.
And the lantern light shows you are lying in a pool of crimson!
