In house gaming

So, our group has been playing Hyperborea RAW for a bit now. And we are considering introducing some in house stuff.

We are considering introducing dex based weaponry “finesse” weapons.

We were considering mirroring the fighters to hit bonuses of strength, but using dexterity, without the damage bonus for finness based melee weapons. As the missile attacks higher bonus would be left exclusively for missile weapons.  And brute power from strength should be the sole purview of warrior based classes.

I’m looking for ideas, what  approaches have you guys utilized if your table has broached this?

The only instance in which my group did what you suggest was when, in AD&D, we used the dex modifiers "to hit" for rapiers.
