There is the official page (https://www.facebook.com/HYPERBOREA.TV/) ... You can post to it, not sure if that's Jeff's intent (as it's nominally the Northwind Adventures FB page), but it is possible.

If you are 3/2 for attacks you have to split 3 attacks over 2 rounds.  Do you have to do the first round as 2/1 and then round 2 as 1/1 or could you do it in the opposite if you wanted?

According to the the 2nd Edition rulebook (p.246): "A 3/2 attack rate implies a single attack on one round and two attacks on the next round; similarly, a 5/2 attack rate implies two attacks on one round and three attacks on the next round."

Though the language is not implicitly clear (though I believe Jeff and DMPrata have commented on this exact wording elsewhere on the forum), the rules seem to imply the lesser number of attacks occur the 1st round (i.e: the 1/1 part of a 3/2 attack), and the larger number of attacks occur in the subsequent round (i.e: the 2/1 part of a 3/2 attack) by the use of the wording :"next round", as opposed to say, "the other round." This is also the way I run my combats.

Any other interpretations fellows?

Hey Spellbinder ... Check out this older message thread ... http://hyperborea.boardhost.com/viewtopic.php?id=179 ... In this thread you'll find an eminently useful document put together by forum User Maezar. What you'll find is that the four phases of a combat round (melee, magic, missiles, movement) do NOT have a specific order as it may seem. The way I run combat, and it follows Maezars suggestions, is that characters take whichever action they want to/need to based solely on initiative order (i.e: Side A Phase 1, Side B Phase 1 ... then Side A Phase 2, Side B Phase 2 ... ordered by individual DEX per side) This is a discussion from back around 1st Edition timeframe, but the combat action sequence did not change from 1st to 2nd. Read through the whole thread as there are links to differing revised versions of the sheet throughout the thread. Hopefully this helps.

Although Ghul and DMPrata have done an "Astonishing" job (see what I did there?) with the rule-set, specifically as related to making them as user friendly as possible, it seems like some understanding of the rules definitely benefit from having a background in OSR games/gaming, or a familiarity with the games/rule-sets that inform the OSR ... such as Spell Casting for example.

Had an awesome first Gary Con! My group and I will be back next year for sure.

Played in a couple Hyperborea games, including one with HandyHaversack and couple of his NYC fellows (and one fellow from Ghul's home group), that were a total blast.

In support of Handy's anecdotal evidence, I also noticed many, many of the "Hyperborea Seeker" ribbons on various badges throughout the Con ... A lot of exposure.

Trying to assimilate back into the day to day now ... Many great memories (highlight was playing in a Top Secret: NWO game run by the OG "Administrator," Top Secret creator, Merle Rasmussen).

Hey measuredrums, that's my MCC game you're in.
I'm looking forward to meeting some of the Hyperboreans there.  I wasn't able to get into an AS&SH game, but I'm running Ghost Ship and saw a couple familiar names in the sign up.

Looking forward to your MCC game under_score. I'll actually being playing with three buddies of mine that were part of my old game crew from back in the 80's. We've all semi-recently reconnected as far as gaming goes, and decided this trip to Gary Con will become an annual reunion to relive the glory days (we all live in different places now). We're playing in 4 events together; your MCC game, also an AS&SH, Top Secret:NWO, and a CoC game. Should be a blast.

p.s. I may be running a bit late to your MCC game (hopefully not), I'll be finishing up an AS&SH game right beforehand ... I'll boogie over asap though ... your game is B Forum (Back), the AS&SH is A Forum (Back), so they're pretty close.

Hey fellows ... I just bought my badge! (late, I know ... I didn't think I had a chance in heck of going ... my schedule opened up thankfully) ... 1st Gary Con here I come! ... I'll be looking over all of your fine game offerings and I hope to get into someone's game/event ... Does anyone here on the forum organize any pick-up games? Looking forward to maybe meeting a few of you fine folks.

I would say that the rules do not "seem" to indicate a free attack from your enemy, they implicitly indicate your enemy gets a free attack. Per the Fighting Withdrawl (Backpedaling) rules on p. 254 (AS&SH 2nd Ed.):

"If, however, a combatant attempts to run away or flee from a hostile situation, he suffers a −2 AC penalty, and each adjacent enemy gains a free and immediate attack (see p. 242: Combat, attack modifiers). If chase is given, movement rates should be compared."

Seems pretty clear ... But, as always, defer to your GM's judgment on this.

Using Eldritch Tales rules to combine to AS&SH.

My plan involves taking PC's from an actual Call of Cthulhu game/campaign (yet to be started) and porting those characters over to ASSH/Hyperborea once their characters find their way beyond the North Wind. The conversion between the Chaosium Basic Roleplay system and ASSH/old school D&D is rather painless (the conversion guide in d20 Call of Cthulhu is helpful too) ... Haven't had a chance to look thru Eldritch Tales yet.

Heck yeah man, great idea ... That's what I really love about the Hyperborea setting, you could literally insert any adventurer from any historical period of Earths past (or ... future!?!) and have a go at it ... I've actually been contemplating an adventure, and/or campaign, where certain 1920's Earth "Mythos Investigators" are transported to the land beyond the North Wind via a spell/ritual from an ancient insanity blasting tome!

Haven't watched Episode 1 yet, but the TiVo is all ready to record it all ... This is totally going to make me want to break out the old Pagan Publishing CoC 'Walker in the Wastes' campaign (maybe a conversion to AS&SH ... hmmmm?) ... so stoked for this though.
