It's there in his blog post, first column of the table.

"All Dwarves need 15% more experience per level to level up than humans of the same class," etc.

This being a high-fantasy setting, one also presumes Humans can aspire to levels above 12. But so, perhaps, can demi-humans?

I did see that part. The all get magic eyes and spells and stat bonus and skills and they all sound very nice, thought maybe he had something to make the humans a bit more enticing was all, and not mentioned since this was focused on Demi-humans.

Cool class, sounds fun. My only criticism that has not already been put down is the level progression is the same as a fighter. seems it should be at least a bit slower for gaining all of those extra skills.

Command - So foolishly I had not read this spell till right before it was used, so I didn't realize the differences from other systems version till that moment.  Duration of 6 rounds. So would most people just have the victim just "fall" down and then he can get back up or is he stuck down for the full minute? I ruled that after they attacked it, the werewolf was free to get back up. Any one care to share how they rule on this?

Hold Person- Duration 1 hour this seems crazy long to me is it possibly a mistake. would you grant another saving throw if they attack the person, or is the person vulnerable to insta kill? Our situation Lodinn made the save on the hold but it got me thinking so i was prepared for it in the future.

Part of why I questioned it was these spells were going to negate the encounter that I was thinking would be at least a challenge. It ended up a bit underwhelming,Also I don't care to punish the players for playing smart either.

I have been prepping and converting Tomb of horrors for some friends come this halloween. So the list at the end got me thinking specifically the power word kill pronounced by an Æthereal magic user. So is the Demi lich residing in the ethereal and this is what makes him vulnerable? should this type of thing extend to other spells? just to use the list from the original adventure holy word seems like a prime candidate to be more effective if the caster was also Æthereal. Would this type of thinking extend to other undead, not skeletons or zombies but some of the incorporeal undead ? Just some rambling thoughts and questions. Wanted to hear what others thought.

I'm partial to the touch attack reasoning for determining if it works or not. Great question now when this happens in my game I am prepared for how I will rule on it.

It seems to me that XP for gold subsumes everything that was done to gain it (with the exception of combat, which has a separate award). I have a hard time believing that any system taking note of individual actions during an adventure would be simpler than just dividing the loot and awarding 1 XP for 1 GP; certainly the ideas presented here - whatever other merits they may or may not have - don't strike me as particularly simple, and definitely not simpler than 1 GP = 1 XP.

That really only leaves the rather tired (and, to me, not particularly convincing) argument that "wealth is its own reward". That statement may be true, but it's not especially pertinent for a couple of reasons. Firstly, lots of things are "their own reward". Killing monsters before they eat you is its own reward. So, for that matter, are escaping chains, avoiding traps, evading a stalking monster, and finding the dungeon exit. But we have to award XP for something in a level-based game, whether that something is "its own reward" or not. Secondly, to my way of thinking, XP isn't really about a "reward"; it's a way of keeping score, of evaluating how well the players did in the gaming session that just ended. I've already stated that I believe 1 GP = 1 XP is simpler than any system that tracks individual actions (such as the one in 2E, or some of the ideas presented in this thread). But it has three other merits: it is objective, concrete, and non-specific.

XP for gold is objective because 1 GP = 1 XP is a simple mathematical calculation with no room for bias or arguments. A player can't, for example, argue "I was extra whiny about my PC's childhood traumas tonight, so I deserve a larger Role-Playing Award!" or "The chimney is a really non-obvious way of escaping the dungeon, so I deserve a bigger DM's Choice Award!" 1 GP = 1 XP, and that's all you get (at least where treasure is concerned -

I like the system presented as ASSH. I notice it's fairly similar to a system Gygax mentioned on one of the boards. XP's  for actual play time, xps for monsters defeated, xps for cash and prizes. Plus good use of a skill and a few others things that I can't think of atm. I also still think a spell book can be an important source of vitamins and minerals in any growing sorcerers diet. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/lol.png

I split the xp of all items as well.

I have never had the question come up from a loot standpoint. It's a rare occasion that they face and slay an Npc Sorcerer. They tend to not be in a position to be attacked or escape while the minions are butchered. It happens but very rarely.

I combine the xps for most things into a pool and divide up except for the magic items. I award the xps for a set of armour to the one using it. Sword etc. Not saying it's not right to just pool it all , i never considered doing it that way actually.

Yup. Not even sure what the raw is on the subject. I've just always done it the other way. Interesting how that works.

That is why I like these boards, I am interested in how other people do things and run their games.
