I was finally able to check this out. The reveal at the end was fascinating! It explains the huge disconnect between Bryce's reviews and the favorable reactions from my players. Every one of Ghul's adventures has been a big hit a my table, particularly Rats in the Walls

(One thing it's possible to deduce is that the Atlantean aquatic traits don't stem from being Deep One hybrids. That's because the Atlanteans can't interbreed with other humans, whereas the Deep Ones themselves - to say nothing of Deep One hybrids - obviously can. I imagine this will be left to referee interpretation, but I assume Atlanteans are turning into fish either because of a curse, or an ancient super science experiment gone wrong.)

This is a good point and I have to reconsider my personal canon. I was running with the idea that the fish-like traits and decline was because the Atlanteans bumped heads with Cthulhu & Co.

Hi demetrisathanasopoulos and welcome to the board. It is always a pleasure to meet another fan of my favorite fantasy setting. I am excited about 3E as well and my players have been eager to get back to Hyperborea.

We've been playing Jeffrey McKinney's weird fantasy Carcosa setting in the meantime using the B/X rules but I my players' hearts belong in Hyperborea. They've told me as much. My plan is wrap up the current campaign and start a new one in Hyperborea once 3E drops.

Plus, my feeling is that the obelisks are what is maintaining Hyperborea as a livable environment, despite its current untenable state. If you really did destroy one... https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/devious.png

That is my take on the obelisks as well. In the unlikely event that PCs managed to wield mighty cosmic forces beyond the comprehension of Man to damage or destroy one of the obelisks it would have disastrous effects across the entire planet/spaceship/cosmic petri dish known as Hyperborea

I absolutely loved the 2E map and am glad you got Glynn on the team for 3E! If I may make a humble request, would it be too difficult to render the large map in a standard poster size? I used the map as a prop to "show not tell" Hyperborea's unique geography but the non-standard size made it expensive to frame.

To be clear, the map is probably my all-time favorite fantasy RPG map and I am not trying to tell the artist how to do their job. That said, the non-standard size is a little limiting for those of us who want to show it off and use it as a prop.

I like the move towards B/X style initiative and action order, I think it's a solid decision.

Second that.  I hope the plan is to retain the 1st ed art.  I love those charcoal/pencil pictures...

Absolutely love that art as well.

Very excited for the release of 3e. I personally like the return of the two volume set as it has greater utility at the table. I also dig the expanded playable character races! I'm hoping this project is a smashing success.

Man, I wish this mask was available a year ago! Still, it looks pretty sweet and I am definitely going to order one. I was pleased with the quality of the dice bag and imagine this will be of similar quality.

HI Antalon, Jeff Reints also inspired me to incentivize exploration and, to a lesser extent, extraordinary experiences with small XP rewards. However, like others suggested in this thread I recommend significantly reducing the value of your rewards. This is only my opinion but keeping players hungry for XP and gold encourages them to explore and seek adventure for more (one of many reasons I don't like milestone XP)

I own a great deal of Gabor's stuff. His brand of fantasy is a good fit for Hyperborea.

Thank you for sharing about Toby. He is such a distinguished gentleman in those later pics! I did not understand how the death of a long time animal companion can hurt as much as the loss of a human relative or friend until it happened to me; the moment I gave permission to euthanize my cat I felt like I had killed my best friend and was completely unprepared for the grief that followed.

Not fond of the on-line version, given I spend 10 - 12 hours per work-day (and some every weekend) working on my computer: too much like work, not enough human interaction. I'll bide my time.

Same for me. I just cannot make the time to port my campaign into Roll20. I spend too much time on the goddamn computer as it is.
