Mountain apes are described in the Referee's Manual as "massive, humanoid brutes", so I don't think this is a debatable case.

I'm not sure if I ever mentioned it before, but the reason I bought the game and became involved in Hyperborea in the first place is because I saw the review on Grognardia in October of 2012. So you have James M. to "thank" for that. ![]()

Ha! I appreciate that.
I'm sure you'll also appreciate the fact that I edited my comment to not name names (as I was going to originally). ![]()

Here are the Moor crosses:
Given the "exotic" complexion of the Moorish parent, none of these offspring quite fall into the typical range of "common" men (although, in another sense, these are all of course "common" men). But many will join those ranks in the next generation, so it may be interesting to have "common" men with Moorish grandparents (and who perhaps follow some Moorish customs).

| Sorcery » Magic Missile vs Mirror Image in Hyperborea » 7/30/2025 12:22 pm |
Since the missiles can be aimed at multiple targets, I would probably allow a clever player to make the following argument: "I see four versions of the enemy sorcerer in front of me. I can unerringly fire four magic missiles when I cast the spell. Therefore, I'm going to aim one missile at each apparent sorcerer that I see." I would then allow a missile to unerringly hit each of the three duplicates (dispelling it) and the final missile to unerringly hit the actual sorcerer (inflicting damage). The player would have to think of this argument himself though. If he didn't, I would randomly determine the target of each missile as usual.
Mirror image is a first level illusionist spell, so I think there are limits to how much it should be allowed to foil other spells.

If I go back and give new names to the duplicate kits (as I'm rather foolishly considering doing) before I assemble the final document, there will be 10,080 unique race kits in this supplement. Combined with the 576 race kits in the original Waifs of the Boreas, there will be a total of 10,656 race kits. Multiplying this by the 432 class kits in the original document would yield a total of 4,603,392(!!!) unique characters. ![]()

The Lemurian crosses are finished!
Due to the range of Lemurian complexions, a lot of these are more "exotic" looking than some of the others sets of crosses. However, there are a fair number of olive and bronzed complexions to be found here, so it might be interesting to occasionally see "common" men with Lemurian characteristics such as epicanthic folds, long arms, etc.

Our new Xathoqqua logo hats for HYPERBOREA are in production! Check out this leather patch. These will be hand-sewn onto each hat. We ordered extra hats, which will be added to our web store once we get them in.
Great looking patch! Is hand-sewing them going to be another task for your poor daughter? ![]()

This is one of the craziest, most ambitious projects I have seen for this game. Can't wait to see what the entire thing looks like.
The really crazy part will be if I decide to go back and roll new names for all of the otherwise duplicated race kits, so that all of them really are unique. That will add months to finishing the single-document version. ![]()

I still say those are just "common" men. If Mendel doesn't like it, let him roll up 200,000 more race kits. ![]()

Fair. I don't normally wear hats of any kind, but I actually could use something to keep sweat out of my eyes while weeding my infamous landscaping.
Plus I backed the hoodie despite the fact that I never wear hoodies (and have not in fact worn it). ![]()

I'm amazed I'm the only one to back a black hat so far. Knowing gamers and their taste in clothes, I thought that would be the only color anyone backed. ![]()

Very nice. So, what is left at this point?
Kimmerian, Kimmeri-Kelt, Lapp, Lemurian, Moor, Mu, Pict, Pict (Half-Blood), Roman, Tlingit, and Viking. Since I'm reusing relevant ones from previous races (i.e., Moor-Amazon is the same as Amazon-Moor), each successive race has one fewer new cross to create than the one before. So Vikings will only have one new cross (Viking-Yakut) and Yakuts will be 100% reused previous crosses.
Anyway, I'll get it done. And then you can move onto tri-ethnic waifs! ;)
I think those all just yield "common" men. Or that's my story anyway. ![]()
