Both adventures were a pleasure to read and I can't wait to see how they play out at the table.

My players had great fun with the adventure and one of them even got the Aquaman reference. They are planning to return to Port Greely with mercenaries and reclaim it from the deep ones. I am thinking of using The Raid on Innsmouth scenario in Chaosium's excellent Escape From Innsmouth supplement as a model for this adventure., with the players taking part in an Oligarchy-sponsored effort to cleanse Port Greely.

Are your players familiar with the original HPL story?  Mine were not and it made it better IMO since it was a fresh scenario for them.  And it's good if they explore those encounter areas on the islands because they can find some handy items that will really help them.

I doubt any of my players have read Shadows Over Innsmouth but Mrs. Savage at the very least is familiar with the "village corrupted by fish men" trope; it's repeated in games and other media.

To be honest I was thinking of placing all the interesting island locations onto a single island because I don't want to  the players to waste a lot of precious game time exploring several mostly empty islands. I only have 5-6 hours to run the scenario.

Barrowmaze deep in the Lug Wastelands.

I am about to run this adventure on Sunday. Shadows of Innsmouth happens to be my favorite Lovecraft yarn so I've been looking forward to this for a couple years. I'd appreciate tips from DMs who have run this before me. I have a feeling my normally conservative players might try to impress the Oligarchy by purging the fish-men or something crazy like that.

I placed Barrowmaze deep in my campaign's Lug Wasteland. I use Operation Unfathomable to represent Underborea around Yithorium. Rappan Athuk is somewhere around that orc city (I forget the name). B4 The Lost City is reskinned as The Lost City of Xuthas in the Diamond Desert. I use other published dungeons of course but those are the big ones I can recall.

My own megadungeon exists beneath Khromarium, a legacy of the Elder Things who built the city millions of years, influenced by the snake-men, vhuurmi, and Hyperboreans who came later.

I have been tinkering with mine for years, now. It lies within the confines of Mount Vhuurmithadon, which is all points north in Hyperborea.

I hope that it could be published some day. It doesn't have to be the whole thing (although that would be awesome); I'd be happy with a few levels, ideas for more levels, and some evocative dungeon generator tables so DMs can make it their own.

Hyperboreans, in particular, thinking themselves a superior race would never stoop to consummating this type of relation with beings of inferior stock!

Yea this was my take on it as well. Intimacy with the "lesser races" would be unthinkable, akin to bestiality at best.

Ensure that the players have at least a couple obvious adventure hooks at all times. Forcing the players to spend valuable game time "finding the fun" is a leading cause of death among sandbox campaigns.

AS&SH is on humble bundle for $1. It's a good opportunity to spread the word about the most awesome weird fantasy setting ever.

That's about the best praise a DM can get. I think you were wise to take inspiration from R.E.H. and craft a solid two-fisted yarn to hook your player.

I think you're doing it right by feeding your player small easily digestable bites of exposition. It's a strange world with lots of things that differentiate it from high fantasy Tolkien-derivative kitsch; it's easy to overwhelm players with fascinating details!

Hyperborea is more akin to a space ship or cosmic petri dish than a planet with natural biomes. There's all kinds of things about Hyperborea that don't make sense without powerful sorcery and alien science (e.g. Earth-like gravity, breathable air, seas spilling over the edge, hollow interior with mythic underworld, Lemurian Remnant's spatial anomaly). Why are you drawing your line in the sand over sunlight?

There an area on the map, along the river Vol where there is a section with 3 lakes and a branch of the Vol. it's an area about 26 miles in space, bordered on 3 sides (plus a little on the 4th side) with the river/lakes. It looks like a nice confined space and it's mostly grasslands (rolling hills). Unless you need a more hilly area, then there is a location to the east of the Kimmerian Stepp, it's a 26-mile grassland surrounded by hills, but it's more like a week travel.

Dude thanks a ton!

Somewhere between Swampgate and Khromarium?

I should have said I am specifically avoiding the fens and marshes of the Lug Wasteland. I guess I'll go with some coastal plains.

Hyperborea » Wild Boar Hunt » 8/13/2019 3:18 pm

I need a location within a day or two  of Khromarium that's ideal for a boar hunt during Apollonalia. It has to be isolated enough for a "hunter becomes the hunted" scenario with a swine daemon and his progeny but close enough to city for jaded elites to take a pleasurable hunting expedition without too much fuss. Thanks in advance for your help.

The DM should have let Ghul's character finish the invocation or at least clarified what the character was trying to do before adjudicating..
