Friday @ 4pm
Saturday @9am
Saturday @2pm

HYPERBOREA: Lost Cairns of the Savages

A sandbox adventure to the fog shrouded Black Feather Island where rumors persist that pre-historic savages built burial cairns which hold untold riches, but are they ripe for the picking or are they deadly ripe? Loosely based on Howard's "Wolves Beyond the Border" "The Black Stranger" and "Beyond the Black River" this game is refereed by AS&SH Illustrator Del Teigeler. Characters provided.

Meh! its all okay, glad to be reading about Crom's child again, but the art and story are mid 5-6 on ten scale. No comparing to Thomas/Buscema/Alcala Conan, or even Cary Nord's.

A few of my favorite Buscema/Alcala images... Just love the inkwork in the stones, and the brooding feel to it. Alcala's use of blacks and hashing is so good.... definitely inspirational. I have seen scans of the original drawings for these and the mastery of Buscema shows through in them. Definitely a masterful duo!

There are still a few original pieces from previous kickstarters available on my website if anyone in interested.

I will be posting original art  from Other-worldly tales (except Sea Wolf's Daughter cover) for sale when the Kickstarter ends. They will be on my website under Art For Sale. Check them out, and PM me. I will bump this again when I post them.

Thanks for sharing!

Always loved his work in the Fiend Folio... I reached out to him a few years back for some advice too, and he is simply a great guy!

Actually really like his more modern stuff, and find it interesting that his finished inking style does not resemble his pencils...

I like the idea of magic items, specific to the adventure, something that may give the PC's an edge on some of the more difficult encounters (if used right). With that in mind, I like to limit them a bit with either a minor curse (perhaps they cannot get rid of it, or it attracts certain beings to it) or with a limited amount of charges. I agree with chainsaw, there is too much good stuff to waste it. It can always be made rid of, if it is breaking things.

For Lost cairns because of the nature of it, there is a need of silver weapons to help eradicate some of the nasties, so many of the tombs have simple siver daggers, which due to its' softness only lasts for a few encounters. It is a self limiting item. And though it loses its effectiveness in combat, it does not cease being silver and hold value!

In that same vein, try a Lead Sword +1 (requiring a 17+ STR to wield and dulling quickly), or a crystal staff +1 with a chance of breaking and becoming useless. Or even that rare golden hammer +2 that becomes so malformed after two hits that it becomes just value for its gold.

There are a ton of different ways if you are creative to come up with self limiting items that may break the game for a session or two, but really are great for roleplay and fun.

For Lost Cairns of the Savages I have done a ton of digging into Inuit, Tlingit, esquimaux, as well as Apache, Commanche and Cherokee folk lore. I have found quite a few that I am incorporating into that adventure too...

Not to mention all of the rituals and burial rites of those early stone age and native american tribes-people. Interesting stuff as well as great fodder for game!
