Yeah it was great!  My latest installment of Lankhmar/Newhon games using AS&SH seemed to be well-received, as the party recovered what was left of the treasures stolen and absconded with by The Birds of Tyaa, in the story "Claws in the Night".  In addition, they recovered a couple of artifacts, per "requests" from Ningauble and Sheelba.

Was very happy to see everybody again, and sorry I missed those of you who were there and I didn't bump into.

Yeah, this is a pretty great bunch of posters.  I really haven't had the urge to reach through the interwwwebz and crack anybody's skull on this board.  https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/grin.png

I'm just not fond of the accounting involved, and I think it is the antithesis of fun.

Boardgames do a better job of resource management-style gaming than RPGs.  If I want to worry about that kind of crap, uh, nevermind, I don't.

My biggest concern in not encumbering my stomach with too many pretzels, thereby limiting my beer intake.

How would the Tinkerer have this knowledge?

Trial and error.  Perhaps a guild of folk looking to restore ancient tech as much as they can.  Perhaps knowledge passed down by a dozen generations of those lucky enough to reproduce before they offed themselves in a some comically horrible fashion?  A secret society?  Who cares, if it's fun?

Ahhh, the old buy yourself gaming stuff but frame it as a gift from someone else ploy.  Used it many times myself.  In fact, I've got multiple shipments of stuff on the way that I bought in various Black Friday sales.  So my wife will wrap them and I can't see until Christmas.  But this way I know I get what I want.  Impossible for her, as a non-gamer, to keep track of such esoteric things.

Haha! So true, my friend.

Works for guitar gear, too.  I have a Marshall under the tree....

I spent a little time wondering about this, then dug into my archive of stuff I've worked on over the last 15 years.

I don't have a consistent way.

Some are just "monsters", others are "3rd level fighter, +1 to hit/dmg, AC: 3, 23hp, Longsword, Bow", and others are largely fleshed out, especially the Leaders and their Lieutenants, who generally get a character sheet..

Well, I ran one pick-up game, played in another pick-up game, and played in an on-grid game (which is typical of my Gary Con in-person experience), plus I "attended" the Opening Ceremony, where Luke claimed if you were there, you were at Gary Con XII.  So, my streak of going to all of them is intact.

I had very low expectations when it came to actually running on online games, as I'd never done it before, and it went better than I expected, which is always nice.  Lloyd Metcalf interviewed me about the VTT experience, will be interesting to see how that series of interviews turns out.  It was fun, I'll do it again, but I have no delusions of it ever becoming my normal, let alone, preferred form of playing D&D.  It isn't the same.

Thanks for your insights, francisca! Did you run combat RAW or did you simplify it? I've run RAW 1e at PAX and I've never had serious issues with players adjusting to it, so long as the UA is kept out of the mix!

I run AS&SH combat raw, but generally ignore the phases except when it matters.

When I run AS&SH, I run it straight up with the characters as-written in the book, I don't import anything from UA.  As of this point, everybody has been satisfied with choice of classes.  I have used some monsters (Frost-Men, Ice Trolls, and a few others) straight up from 1e, in terms of AC, HD/hp, damage from attacks, etc...  For saves, I go by the HD of the monster and use the AS&SH saves.  I haven't found any edge cases yet, and would just make a ruling which hewed close to AS&SH than 1e, and move the game along.

There has been some discussion of spell conversion on this board where there is a 1e spell but no analog in AS&SH.

For me, since I write my own adventures, I haven't had any serious gotchas! happen in-game.  However, I did run a game at Gary Con using AS&SH, set in Greyhawk, and essentially converted the characters from the G/D modules to AS&SH for the pre-gens.  I'd have to go through them and see what I did and what decisions I made (I'd thought I had passed these on to Guy Fullerton for his most excellent Pre-Gen library, but they aren't there, so maybe I didn't. http://unvisiblecitadel.blogspot.com/2016/06/old-school-pregenerated-character.html)
