Or add Hibernation to allow for the very long winters with the Reptilian Carnivores... Imagine how vicious a pack of Velociraptors would be after sleeping for 4-5 years?!?!?

In medieval times we had the knights templar that operated essentially a banking system where they would take monies in and give out a writ (Essentially an IOU) that supposedly had a system to prevent them from being forged. So anyone that wanted to travel on the Pilgrim's road could "deposit" gold with the Templars in England, and then get gold from the Templars on the trail all the way down to Jerusalem. Never having to carry more than a couple of weeks' worth of gold needed during thier travels.

If a DM wanted, he could incorporate something like that into his game. Being S&S-based it could be something other than Knighthood based, Maybe one of the Guilds, or a group of high-level Mages, Or major Religion that organize it (Note: It's a profitable Operation, so worth it for a larger organization to do). You could make it as a set of roads that Circumnavigate the main continent of Hyperborea along the coast, with locations in the major "City's and Outposts" on the road...

It's a Non Issue brother, but thanks for keeping us in the loop...

Fully understandable, happens now all the time, and with the supply chain difficulties because of Covid, nothing can be helped...

ShireCon and TotalCon are kind of Local Cons for Jeff and friends, and there are a lot of DMs running Hyperborea at them...

Someone who has specialized in Bows (Regular or Master), I would give a chance in certain circumstances to use Ricochet Shots. Caveats: Must be Stone/Iron that the arrows will bounce off, Must be a 90-degree angle (or less), and would be at least -2 to hit in addition to any range modifiers...

Examples:
Archer could Bank one off the ceiling of a stone keep in order to hit someone in the back lines of the enemy during Melee.
Archer could bank one off a smooth wall of cavern to hit a creature hiding behind a corner (Add Blind shot modifications if they can't be seen).

Just remember, If a character wants to do something, Think about whether it's possible and add Penalties/Bonuses as you think they should be applied. The Rule Books are just a Suggestion and Helpful guide, the Game is yours, you make the rules...

Do a quick visuallization of what both types of fire look like. Direct fire is Aiming directly at (typically above due to drop over distance) and letting loose. Indirect fire is aiming up into the sky and having the arrows come back down in a Parabolic angle, (Think what goes up, must come down), If I were GMing that situation. I'd stay with the direct fire for any shot less than medium-range, and only direct fire within Short and point-blank. Only because of what you're asking the arrow to do. Also, there is no such thing as indirect fire in anything but an outside setting. The indirect fire inside would require a ceiling height of longer than the weapon's maximum range...

I liken the "Wierd Science" portion of Hyperborea's setting to Ancient forgotten technology and Alien (Ancient Gods) tech. And placement should be not unlike Expedition to the Barrier Peaks from the original D&D. Once in a long while characters may come upon an ancient ruin where technology could be located. but not often, and limited (don't want to go full-on Monte Hall on them, as it's then hard to reign back in).

For example, in something I'm writing up, I have two locations of technology (of about 8 active locations) One is an ancient Atlantian Pyramid that is actually a Prison, and another is a tower of an Ancient Atlantian Mage (now a Lich), and he has some remnant technology.

Bring back the Ancient Green man celebration (and Sacrifice)...

The green man was chosen from the virile men in the village. They would gain the ability and authorization to have sex with any and as many women in the village (Married, Single, Any, and they would be Willing, as it's an Honor to do so) for a week preceding the final day of the celebration. Then, in the last 24 hours, he is hunted. A May Pole is erected and all the women would chase the Green man in an attempt to capture him, If at the end of 24 hours he is not caught, he is free, but it will not be a good Year coming (bad crops, maybe worse). In the case of Hyperborea, the full celebration could happen every 13 years and represent 13 years of "Bad Seasons". If caught Tie him to the Maypole and do a dance with the "ribbons" (Actually ropes with Ribbons attached), that hang from the top of the pole, that begin to wrap their way down the pole. Once the dance is complete, the green man is immobilized and then they kill him... Thus letting his blood into the ground renewing the earth for the new season.

So in this case, One of the Male characters is told about the celebration, and one of them is chosen. But not told about his impending doom if caught. So once he's "getting Into it" have one or two of the rest of the party overhear what is to come, and then the intrigue and attempt to flee. When the Green Man attempts to leave the village he encounters something like a wall of force that prevents him from leaving, the others do not feel it, nor are they prevented from leaving. Thus the Green man cannot just run far away after the ritual has started, he must stay and be chased for the day at the end. He can attempt to hide (probably won't work) and the others "could" attempt to protect him, but would be overwhelmed by the villagers. And thus starts the real dilemma. Should the party allow the members sacrifice? should they defend him and hope to defeat over 100 villagers (Note, Killing any of the women pur

I like the idea of the party finding their scorched bodies at some point.

Maybe in a room with a hexagonal table with 6 large obelisks at the corners and a smaller one in the center.

Of course they tried to mess with the table...or even just get close and zap!

I was working toward an ancient crash site of Ailen technology (Which could be an alien craft buried for 100s of years under the surface with a table like you describe) or an Ancient Star Metal Meteor with strange properties and a radiation field that causes the strange portals randomly, but if studied perhaps there is a pattern that could be Discerned over the course of 2 Sun Cycles (26 years)...

In the stuff I'm writing I've also been toying with the idea of a location that has randomized Distortions of Time-Space that present portals randomly in a several-mile area (a single Hex on the main map). One of the NPCs has a background where his mother came in from Numidia in the Old World to Hyperborea.

The NPC's backstory is below...

Sven starts his tale after taking a long draught of Mead from his horn. “I am Sven Svensson, Son of Sven Erickson and Sianoba a Numidian Princess that fell through the veil from the old world, into this place.” “My father was out Ranging, following rumors of strange happenings some 300 miles west of Ragnarrheim in New Vinland, an area not far from where we stand now.

As he was searching along the edge of the Glacial mountains, he saw strange lights in a grove. As he entered, he saw what looked like a shimmering Rainbow Doorway into a different land. A land filled with Sand and bright yellow sun. As he watched, a horse and rider came over a dune toward the doorway riding hard. Not watching where they were going but looking back. As the rider approached the doorway, from behind the dune's crest a group of riders wearing Roman Styled armor and wielding bows emerged and let fly with a swarm of arrows. Hitting the first rider several times.” “The injured rider plunged through the doorway into the deep snow losing control and coming to a heap a dozen yards into the new realm, to the amazement of both my father and the riders following. Just as quickly as the doorway appeared, it started to shimmer and it was blinking out of existence, leaving behind a rider, now splayed in the deep snow, and a critically wounded horse.

My Father stalked forward silently to find not a man, but a beautiful, now unconscious and Dying woman with dark nearly Obsidian black skin, darker skin than he's ever seen before, black like coal, but as smooth as the silks she wore. He leapt into action and began addressing the arrows sticking out of her

I actually like some of 3/3.5, but 2 was by far and away my favorite also. Loved the "historical" book series in 2nd Ed (The Vikings, Charlemagne's Paladins, Etc)

Up to 8. Three from the front, three from the rear, 1 from each flank.

On a hex map, only 6!

You are forgetting weapon reach, you could have spears and polearms behind others that could still attack at a second rank.

yes, they all should stack. Strength, Ability, Magical Bonuses on the weapon, all are considered separate bonuses, and thus stack.

I personally would allow stowing weapons and casting spells in the same round if the caster didn't also try to move.

Exactly how I'd do it.

I'll Second/Third that...
Casting requires the caster's hands, not hand. Having something in hand would cause them to be hindered.
