I’m getting ready to submit events and I wanted to coordinate so we’re not all running the same thing at the same time. I’m running fewer games this year so I can get a chance to play. I’m looking at 10 AM on Thursday, either running Brazen Bull or something of my own.

EDIT: I’m really interested in running a high-level demesne adventure. I’ve never done it before, and it’s a part of ASSH that I’ve never explored.

Do we want a facebook group dedicated to Hyperborea? I post a lot of stuff in the OSR group and my personal gaming group, but I was thinking that a group just for Hyperborea discussions might be nice. As much as I hate the platform, I check it more than I do the forums.

Thread resurrection: I’ve been thinking about this a lot, not because I want demihumans in Hyperborea, but because This rule set is my favorite of all the editions or clones of D&D. I’m about to run Highfell, and while running it in B/X or LL would be easy, knowing there’s a rule set I enjoy more is gnawing at me.

I think I’m going to just make the races cosmetic. Infravision/dark vision is my least favorite demihuman ability, and ability score modifiers are boring and munchkin-y IMO.

If I were to differentiate them from humans , I’d probably go race-as-class with some modifications. Elves are warlocks, but if they get infravision I’d take away weapon mastery.  I’d do Dwarves as cataphracts or berserkers, minus the mounted stuff for cataphracts (or maybe keep it in with weird mounts like war pigs or similar).

Thoughts?

I’m considering changing the combat matrix to a more B/X style, i.e. 20s are hits even into the negative ACs. I don’t think it will unbalance the game, and it cuts down on having to write all the way to -9 on the character sheet.

I use the same rule as casting in combat: archer gets -2 AC, and attack is ruined if struck before firing (with expenditure of ammo).

We reconvened last night, and the mi-go made short work of the conscious PCs. I described to the players how they have flashes of memory of strange vistas, bright white rooms, and a constant buzzing sound. Then they find themselves sitting around a jungle camp just outside the crypt of an ancient Hyperborean warlord, a strange metallic taste lingering on their tongues.

I used a dungeon from “The Treasure Vaults of Zadabad.” The mi-go, impressed with the capabilities of the PCs compared with their Oon slaves, decided to use them to recover powerful hyper-geometric artifacts. I didn’t explain any of that to the players, so they’re freaked out having had their butts kicked and then immediately finding themselves outside the crypt.

I might have made a mistake in running an adventure meant for 5th level players for my group which is a mix of 1st-3rd level characters. I lowered some of the monsters HD (but left the boss villains alone) and # of attacks to not make it totally ridiculous, but I was hoping that the players might use more caution and be less likely to run into combat if they were outclassed.

I should have known better.

So I’ve killed two PCs and dropped three more into negatives. One PC is left standing and trying to escape on his own. The adventure has a way to raise dead and heal the badly wounded, and the surviving PC started that process before retreating. That means the bad guys will find a bunch of recuperating PCs.

I’m thinking of directions I can take them instead of execution, since they have a few months investment in these characters and I threw them into a hard scenario. Also, I look at this as an opportunity to beat these characters down and see who rises up. I’d love to open this up for some Gygaxian democracy and brainstorm some ideas. The big bads are Mi-go, if that helps.

I started up a new campaign a few weeks ago using Xambala. Holy crap, it’s tough for 1st level characters. They decided to cut their losses and head out on the next ship. Having other adventure locations in the immediate area is a great idea.

We definitely have to coordinate our games next year so we have the chance to sit at each others' tables. Or book Jeff for an after-hours game. Great to see a bunch of you!

I decided to go last minute. I'm running one session of The Anthropophagi of Xambaala on Saturday.

I'll be there. I'm running three sessions of the Black Moss-Hag of Lug, as well as three sessions of DCC Lankhmar. I have some pregens that DM Dave sent me last year for Total Con. They're the level 1 iconics from the second ed. They're on the form-fillable sheet, so you can adjust them for any level. I can put them up to drive if there's interest.

Total Con report: first of all, I had a great time. I thought my two sessions of Lost Treasures of Atlantis went very well. I had a table of 6 on Friday and a table of 8 on Saturday. There were some great battles, smart tactics and problem solving by players, and fantastic beasts to slaughter and be slaughtered by. I really couldn’t have been happier.

If you played in my game and want to leave your thoughts for me or Chainsaw (I’m sure he’d love to hear your feedback) please fire away. No thin skin on my end and I can only hope to improve my GMing.

I'm running B4-The Lost City in two parts, Thursday at 10 AM and Friday at 10 AM(if my submission gets accepted). Returning players for part 2 can use the same characters from part .

Chainsaw, can I jump into your off-grid AS&SH Thurs-Fri games (Tim D)?

Hey, everyone. I've been lurking so long I forgot I had an account. My name is Tim and I'm from Rhode Island. I started gaming in '89 with Mentzer Basic and then moved on to 2E. After playing lots of different games and systems, my heart has settled on DCC and AS&SH which I run on alternate weeks. Now that I'm retired from the Army, I'm practicing my writing to hopefully publish some adventures of my own. I've had the pleasure of meeting some of you in person at various cons, and I'm glad that this forum is active. When I'm not playing AS&SH, I'm reading it or thinking about it.

I'm on the fence, but I'd love to go and run some AS&SH. I'm not sure what game I'd submit, maybe something I come up with myself. Are there any published modules that haven't had a lot of showings at cons?

Edit- wow, I didn't realize this was my first post!
