Hello all,

I would really appreciate some clarification on something bugging me badly: XP for magic items.  CONFUSED!! https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/confused.png

~ If you keep the item, you get the XP.
~ If you sell the item, you get the GP. But you don't get XP for that gold.

What if you keep the item for a while, and having already received the XP, sell it later?
~ You get the GP, but don't get XP for that gold.

Basically the simplest way to put it is you get XP for magic items, but they don't count as far as recovered GP total when awarding XP for gold.

Edited because typing it made it click in my noggin.

We're just starting to verify that when prehistoric Hyperborea (Greenland) was a desert, it indeed had dinosaurs. Which is pretty exciting.

They'd need to have down feathers to survive in most of Ghūl's Hyperborea though.

Temples performed banking services (lending, exchanging, deposits) in the ancient world, explaining why they had lots of money and why they were a target for invaders — even when they worshiped the same gods!

I'm not sure how I imagined to miss the entry for Mu Minor in the book https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/nervous.png
. Well, they need not be mutually exclusive in my head-canon.

I'm thinking I may let a master use indirect fire to avoid hitting allies at medium and long range (Firing into Mêlée p251) though I'd still apply range penalties. That's just me though.

I quite like your rule for that reason, especially as it represents gambling over time (montage!) rather than close to real time.

This had me curious to revisit Gary's rules so I cracked open the old DMG and Appendix F was right there! https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/worried.png

What might be fun is to have the "rat race" test the PCs other abilities. Wererat wriggles through a gate or portcullis, those bars gotta be bent or lock picked to follow. Rat scales a wall, gotta climb, jump up after it; etc.

The wererats are going to try to lose the PCs by going into tight spaces. A rat can get through anything his head can poke through.

Hi Aen-Sedhe welcome to the boards!
I'm a big fan of the precursor civilization and alien "magic is really their science" tropes too. Adventurers are sure to encounter bits of alien tech and remnant advanced populations in their travels. But there's not enough of it to reverse engineer or help advance civilization out of the dark ages. So, my personal preference is much more than Howard's Conan, much less than He-Man or Thundarr. Roughly around Arneson's Blackmoor https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/smug.png

Actually just managed to get a copy of the
big 2e book so will have a look.
We had the Players Handbook

Just to clarify, the overbearing and disarm rules are in the ASSH-PHB as well, even on the same page numbers!

I was really excited to see the Mu people included in the list of races for 3e. I can't help but imagine them like how they've been used in Marvel comics, most notably in the 40s as CLASSIC early sci-fi villains nailing the tropes (domed undersea city, lightning guns, blocky robot suits, Ming the Merciless-like leader, freaking viking-longboat looking submarines!!)

Whatever Jeff has in store for them, I'm sure it will be cool as hell.

Most animals will try to overbear as well. Especially packs of canines.

If what you listed didn't stack, it would be the first D&D/AD&D that I've played that didn't. Jeff wouldn't do us dirty like that. Let that Zerker rip! Though maybe get some distance first?

3rd to 4th edition were really persnickety about what bonuses stacked and which didn't, resorting to having specific terms for the types of bonuses so one could get the calculus correct. I grew up with the TSR editions, but I still have  habits and PTSDeas from 20 years of Wotcee DnD to shake off. A lot of us do.

I would examine the rules on overbearing on page 248 of the big 2e book. Once you have a lot of guys dragging you down, it takes superhuman effort to resist.
Edit: And once restrained (prone) by a couple of guys, another guy can disarm your berserker (page 255).
Then it's off to the pokey!

I wouldn't go so far as to levy a fatigue penalty for at least a few days (unless a CON check passed) but recovering hp would certainly be a lot more difficult.

I am LOVING this!
Encountering rival adventurers won't make me cringe

and fudge

when they come up in random encounters. Now we have an immediate answer when the PCs crack their knuckles and ask "so, these guys have better gear than us?" https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/devious.png
