What I would suggest in lieu of official rules is make the PCs make a Test of Constitution for each day the PC goes without water after one day of deprivation. Each failure of a Test of Constitution temporarily reduces the PC's constitution by one point. A similar mechanic is in effect for each day the PC goes without food after three days of deprivation. You make TWO tests per day if you're out of both food and water. Cobstitution returns to its normal level after one day of adequate hydration and nutrition. When Constitution hits zero you're dead.

Are there any rules for this? I couldn't find any but then it's a big book.

I'm wondering how an inhabitant of Hyperborea sees the cycle of day and night. Where does Helios rise? Where does he set? Hyperborea doesn't have east or west so how do sunrise and sunset work?

OK, it's now official head canon that Hyperborea lies in the deep future. I do still wonder what happened to Jupiter (and Io, Europa and Callisto).

The term "Sword & Sorcery" wasn't coined, by Fritz Leiber if I remember correctly, until well after Robert E Howard's death. During the period that "Weird Tales" was in circulation there was just more than Howard writing in this general vein and approaches varied. What I mean is, the rare and dangerous sorcery trope hadn't been rigidly codified back then. I think the Elric stories by Michael Moorcock popularised the trope. Also, it's worth bearing in mind that the Conan stories were written from the eponymous hero's point of view and he did mellow as he got older and further divorced from the awed and terrified superstition of his younger days.

I bought AS&SH 2e about a couple of months ago. Adore the setting. It struck me that the Hyperborea might exist in the deep future, the Sun now in its red giant phase, the inner planets (and Jupiter!) gone. It's very Zothique. But is my surmise true? And is Hyperborea in a distant orbit around Saturn? It must be fairly close as the Saturnian moons can be discerned with the naked eye. I would say that Hyperborea completing one orbit about Saturn every 364 days sounds feasible.
